Man, I used to see those OBX stickers on cars up here and couldn't figure out what they meant. I thought maybe it was obnoxious. Then someone finally clued me in.

I stand by my original theory.

Most of the time when I see vanity plates I immediately think "they paid extra for that? what the hell were they thinking?" The exception was when I saw one that said ML8 ML8. It was on a white VW Rabbit. I LOL'd.

Vanity plates are the Internet posts of the highway. No matter what you put on them someone will call it GHAAAAAAAY.

BrainyBear: Why do we think our state-issued license plates are Constitutionally-guaranteed free speech? What makes us think that we're entitled to have our license plates express some personal message. Go buy a bumper sticker.

Bumper stickers are too long and complicated for today's expressive motorist.
