Seems stupidly common everywhere for people to want to yank crash victims from their cars, even when there is no imminent danger. But I know you are right -- there's an episode of CHiPs that burned that knowledge into me.

I think CHiPs was a couple years before my time (I was in elementary school in the 90s lol), but even though as a child not knowing anything other than "DO NOT MOVE INJURED PEOPLE, let paramedics do it", it was still ingrained.

Perhaps that type of thing wasn't taught to these folks back then, but I hope it is being taught to their kids now.

You guys got a different message from CHiPs than I got. I learned that in a typical car accident, no fewer than 8 vehicles will be involved (initial spin out involving 3-4 cars, followed by a truck, 1 car will roll over, 1 more car will mysteriously launch in the air over the truck, landing on yet another car just before the schoolbus gets involved). And then you have to get the people out (although they usually get out on their own) so you can all run away from the accident, as there is bound to be an explosion and if you're not running it doesn't look right when you leap into the air shouting "Aaaaarrrghh!!!".
