As someone who owned snakes for years I have to say that
A) there is no way that a 5 foot snake (which probably weighs about 4-6 lbs) is going to eat a 2 year old kid who probably weighs at least 18-25 lbs - not gonna happen, and
B) why not let the snake go back in the wild? Just safeguard your home better - lesson learned.

Actor_au: Pic of a snake from my backyard.

I made it into the background image of my Twitter account to scare the crap out of non-Australians. That thing was about two meters long.
We locked the dogs inside, took a bunch of photos and then my mum panicked and called up a snake guy to come and get it, trap it and release it a long way away.
Fun afternoon.

She called a snake guy? To come get it and move it politely? You call that panicking?!?

I'd have grabbed something like a weapon and had at the the thing. A hoe. Hedge clippers. "Ah, so HERE's my Walmart machete!" And not from panic, just protecting my own.

Panic would have me peeing myself while making funny faces. I might even run or faint. In short, your mum is more of a man than I am: is she cute too?

Anyway. It's not like such snakes are an endangered species. Kill it! Kill it NOW!

Yeah, we should kill the python because how dare it be a wild animal. In fact, we should kill all animals, they might do similar things.
