RandomAxe: Best mundane way to banish them, based on actual testing, is, yes, to find an earworm you don't hate and then use that to displace ones you do.

AC/DC works for me. Opening riff of "For Those About to Rock" is repeating in my head right now.

I don't understand about earworms. I have music running through my head from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. I even wake up in the middle of the night with music going. It doesn't bother me because I don't know what it's like to not have music playing in the background.

I always thought this was normal; I only found out about the age of 30 that people don't have music running through their head all the time. My sisters are the same way, and thought it was normal, too, until I told them.

We can banish earworms from our brains

... by stopping them with an act of will, not much different than using your will to lift an eyebrow.
