If you look at the original Surgeon General's report on smoking, which established the link between cigarettes and lung cancer, the report data showed that pipe smokers actually lived longer than the general *non-smoking* population.

Probably because pipe smokers tended to be more educated and wealthy than the general population, which indicated they had better access to healthcare and had healthier lifestyles than the general population.

So, is pipesmoking good for you? No, but it seems it isn't all that bad for you either, since you definitely DON'T inhale pipesmoke. Way too harsh, and makes you sick as a dog if you do.
