Bomb Head Mohammed: Cost to administer 'lottery' - probably about $40,000 + a few hundred for gift certificates.Actual benefit to society: nil.It would take a three minute phone call to anybody who has studied behavioral economics to see that this lottery will do nothing except eat money.
had98c: 1) Find out which camera(s) the lottery will be drawn from. Drive in a circle continuously so you're constantly coming up on said camera(s).2) ???3) Profit.
Bomb Head Mohammed: absolutely does have an absolute duty
CowardlyLion: Bomb Head Mohammed: absolutely does have an absolute dutyYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Godscrack: "We stopped you to give you a reward for being such a good driver!""We're gonna need your driver license so we can give you the citation!"Plus, run a quick background check while they have it.
illannoyin: 1) Click link to see which city is stupid enough to do this2) Find out it's Calgary3) Go back to not caring
YouPeopleAreCrazy: Oh, and they tell you what you can spend it on:"four lucky drivers each month with $250 winnings that can be spent on everything from spa treatments to fine dining within the town."
Godscrack: "We stopped you to give you a reward for being such a good driver!"
ChuDogg: What if somebody is just passing through and can't come back to spend their gift card? Sounds discriminatory to me. Hope some of these businesses atleast ship their goods.
Rich Cream: God = omniscient reward and punishment systemSanta = omniscient reward and punishment systemGovernment = omniscient reward and punishment systemGod= Santa = GovernmentI see what they're doing.
teeny: I don't really have a problem with this, but it sounds like they're implementing it in a weird way. Rather than sift through law-abiders "caught" on camera, why don't they just keep a pool of all registered drivers in the city and then eliminate drivers as they're caught speeding?Or maybe that's what they're doing and I'm just reading it wrong.
