Good idea. The last Gen Con I heard about was a virtual bloodbath.

The solution is simple. Reduce the XP reward for killing the locals.

I can't say I've ever seen an Axis and Allies or Settlers of Catan game go THAT sour.

That won't work, then they'll just have to kill even more locals to level up.

Sherman Potter: As Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's studies prove, "Video games that require the player to shoot a gun and react reflexively with the shooting responses are teaching an entire generation of children to associate shooting killing with pleasure."

Well... that was an embarrassing read. Besides the ignorance, the writing is for shiat.

Anyhoo... Try this bit (FTA) in Tracy Flicks voice.

If playing video games really leads to aggressive behavior, I sure wouldn't want to welcome that into Duluth, despite the prospective economic benefits.

Indiana can keep the Gen Con convention and the violence associated with video games, and we'll stick to Bentleyville's Tour of Lights.

Thank you, Tracy, for that informative presentation.

My son will play in a hockey tournament in Duluth in a couple months. Good thing there's no violence associated with hockey.

The study the author cites. Doesn't really help their case or cover the underlying assumptions associated with Gen Con.

/The only violence to ever ensue at one of my games was my girlfriend got in a fight with this one jerk in game and when he tried to justify his behavior out of game, she managed to force choke him from the other side of the apartment.

Clearly we need to limit dice to six sides. Why do you need twenty sided dice? Also, we need to eliminate game sales at conventions--it's just too easy for dealers to throw in extra game components and other goodies without doing a background check to ensure that the individual is at least 13.

A study done by Craig Anderson and published in Glen Spark's book, "Media Effects," found the "exposure to violent video games is casually linked to increased aggressive behavior, increases in aggressive thoughts and feelings, higher levels of physiological arousal, and less helping behavior."

At least it's only a casual link. It'd be news if they could find a causal link, though.
