Gyrfalcon: Bucky Katt: Snarfangel: Magic markers have no place in school. Our children deserve science markers.

And that goes double for you, Harry Potter. Don't even get me started on your "magic" broom.

and you can easy overdose on highlighters!

Especially those ones with the assorted fruit scents.

Great, now they will want to ban high capacity boxes of crayola.

There is no reason for any american to carry more than 8 crayons.... Because when the founding fathers were talking about freedom of speech, they only meant with ink quill pens.

Just imagine what would have happened if he managed to use it to write a scroll of genocide.

Tragedy averted.

Why do we even have these black assualt-style Sharpies? First of all we need to change the color. Black is the color the military uses for their markers. And no civilan needs a military-style marker. Also, we need to impose strict regulations on current civilian legal Sharpies. They are far to easy to conceal. We need laws which restrict the tube length to no less than 18". Also there is no need for high capacity ink cartridges. Currently you can spread ink all over a piece of paper without having to reload. We need to have cartidges that carry no more than 10 seconds worth of ink. People can still write if they want, they will just have to reload more often. Forcing people to reload more often will give a chance for others to get the marker away from them if they start writing on the walls.

We need a safety feature integrated into the cap as well. Right now you can just pull the cap off, and it is armed and reaady to write. Idealy it would be a biometric ID or a RFID implanted ring that you wear when you want to use your marker. This would keep people from stealing your marker and using it in an act of vandalism. Lastly, do we really need a little clip thing on civilian owned markers? Those clips allow you to attach multiple markers to your clothing, which no civilan needs. Only the military and law enforcement need to carry extra writing devices on them at all times. If you have to carry the marker in your hand, you can only carry 1 at a time, and people will be able to see that you have a marker on you.

If only someone else had been there with a marker too. The whole thing could have been averted.

ThatGuyFromTheInternet: Will they start profiling female Mexican students?

Why? They know what THEY'RE using Sharpies for.

I don't get all the hate. I have an extensive collection of magic markers, as well as enough crayons to get me through the apocalypse, but don't lump me in with this kid. Sure, I also have ten sharpies, but they're all kept in a safe under lock and key, and I never leave any lying around when Mexican friends call around. Just because there are a couple of douchebags shouldn't mean the fundamental right to make colorful doodles is taken away from us.

ultraholland: Anybody tell me why these are still legal?

Anybody? I just don't understand why anyone would need this. There is no legitimate purpose for something so obscene.

Well, technically that is not an 'assault' Marker.

Even though, as you stated, we should all stop kidding ourselves, we all know markers only have one function.

Bucky Katt: What calibre color was the magic marker?

I just measured the two Sharpies on my desk: the normal anti-personnel one is .45 (116 grain) and the large game one is .665 (240 grain).

/I'm going to go get loaded now.
