(Apple)   Summer 2013 just got insanely better. Guillermo Del Toro, giant robots, Kaiju on a grand scale and freaking Idris Elba. It's the trailer for "Pacific Rim"   ( trailers.apple.com) divider line

buntz: No way they use GLaDOS in this movie and NOT have it mean something. It's TOO distinctive a voice to have it just be "a voice"
It would be like having Darth Vader's voice, WITH the breathing, as another voice over. It's too iconic to be coincidence.
I say this movie is a precursor, and it's all part of the same universe? Maybe now we know what Cave Johnson was doing all this testing for? To fight monsters?

Cave Johnson here. Now, I've been hearing that there are rumors circulating among Aperture employees that we've discovered giant monsters from outer space. Let me be clear that those rumors are a bunch of bull.

Believe me, if there were giant space monsters out there we would have found them, and the boys down in Giant Space Monster Fighting Tech Development wouldn't be sitting on their asses all day playing cards. Do those layabouts think I'm made of money? Well they shouldn't because those transfusions didn't take.

Now there also have been rumors that the new Portal Device XK-6 we've been trying out have been turning test subjects into giant monsters. We'll be reverting back to the old reliable XK-5s until we get that worked out.

So get off your duffs and get to work, Giant Space Monster Fighting Tech Development. Science marches on.

Chariots chariots.

To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers...

Leave it to Japan to stage a battle between a robot and a giant pile of monster dicks.

They should have called up this guy.

Seriously, if you've not seen Big Man Japan (trailer) treat yourself.

Big emotional trailer for Superman:

"Meh, his costume sucks, I hate reboots, his face is all wrong, the plot looks too emotional, sucks."

Big trailer for CGI fest with Robots and Aliens:

None of you see your resemblance to Armond White?

swahnhennessy: kronicfeld: If Idris Elba and Del Toro weren't attached, everyone would be calling this Battleship 2. The trailer inspires no confidence.

What he said, to a tee. I love Del Toro, and Stringer Bell can do no wrong, but that trailer didn't sell the movie very well.

*rocket punch*

Your carefully worded arguments are now invalid.

kronicfeld: Pan's Labyrinth is one of the most amazing movies that I have ever seen. I could gush for hours. I cried. And even Hellboy I love. But this looks like a movie trailer that would be laughed at if Michael Bay's name were on it.

If anyone other than Guillermo del Toro was directing this, I'd pass and not think twice about it.
