Y'know, the one where all but one Democrat voted for it, and all but one Republican voted against it...all because a Democrat wrote it?

I should be in the kitchen: Taxes, and the things they pay for, are part of the social contract. I will happily pay for school improvements because I value education above just about anything else and I recognize the benefit to society, beyond myself.

I don't know, there's some legitimate merit to denying the right to vote for people on welfare. It's a huge conflict of political interest. A politician promises better benefits, boom, there goes your vote to them if you're on welfare. Nor should they really have any power to affect those of us in the country who actually contribute to it financially. Odds are if you're on welfare anyways, your ability to make decisions is awful.

The rest of what Nugent says is pretty laughable.

I'm unclear on his plan here. He wants to take away the right to vote from anyone who doesn't work and he also wants to take away people's ability to not vote. All he'll do is end up with a lot more voters, and they are going to be pissed. How could this plan *possibly* work out?

In addition to slaughtering the three sacred entitlement cows that consume a vast majority of the federal budget (and I use the term budget generously), let's truly spread the pain around and raise taxes on everyone, including the nearly 50 percent of Americans who pay zero federal income taxes. Those Americans need to have some skin in the game, too. I recommend at least a 5 percent federal income tax bracket for them. The insane free ride needs to end.

This argument is hilariously wrong.

I wasn't trying to get 1.5 trillion. I was just saying that I agree with a 15% cut in budgets across the board. "Your budget was 1 billion yesterday? Ok well going forward it is 850 million."

Although this talking point has been thrown around a lot over the last couple of years, can you show any examples of actual candidates campaigning on giving more "free" money to poor people? Not accusations from the opposition. I'm asking for examples of actual promises of free money.

15% Across the board cuts would generate roughly $520 billion in savings or roughly half of our deficit spending. Taxes must be raised on those that can afford to pay by a bunch just to come close to balancing the budget.

A lot of local taxes are voted on by the public -- California is the famous example of this. They vote on any state imposed tax, which never passes, because who votes FOR a tax? and then they wonder why they have no money.


We vote against every tax because we're already have the fourth highest taxes in the entire country. We're broke because every stupid idea ever imagined is given funding via the initiative process. Unlike your typical Californian, I understand basic math, so I vote against all those funding initiatives. Unfortunately, I am vastly outnumbered.
