[in response to satirical comments of the no-gun-control crowd]

say what you want, it's a lot easier for one guy to kill a bunch of people with an automatic firearm than with a bow, crossbow, knife, or whatever.

I'm fine with private citizens (who aren't proven crazy or repeat felons) owning handguns, rifles, and shotguns. I don't think any private citizen needs fully automatic assault rifles, machine guns, grenades, rocket launchers, or any other military-level weaponry.

semi-automatic/self-loading guns, that's a gray area ...

The teacher was the target of the attacker, obviously he's going to fight back if he's getting attacked. The real question is, why did none of the students help? Why are we so glad that all of the students escaped unharmed?

How is this cowardice applauded?

But I thought that if people didn't have guns, violent murders would be a thing of the past?

Your_Dog: I "grew up" in Thermopolis.
Casper was the big city to us.
That's where the McDonalds was.

As an NCHS grad I gotta say I love Thermop! All those rejuvenating, therapeutic hot springs *and* the state's buffalo herd to boot. Plus, you can smell if for miles.

The town that is, not the herd. ;)

ISubmittedThisYesterdayWithAMuchFunnierHeadline: Why was a room full of college students escaping at all, instead of beating the ever-loving shiat of the guy that just shot their teacher with a single-shot weapon?

Well from TFA, the "room full of students" was only 6 computer science kids and the dude also had a knife that the police chief describes as "very large" which he used to kill at least one person at that point.

I know, ITG and all that, but if I'm sitting there with 5 other dorks with a pencil in my hand and some dude busts in, shoots the teacher with a crossbow and pulls out a Bowie knife I would think about excusing myself unless the assailant is clearly so tied up with the dad that you could grab it from his hand or something. But beating the ever-loving shiat out of someone with your barehands could be tough if they're stabbing you in the gut.

Ow! That was my feelings!: Oh com'n c'mon. There is no proof the killer was interested in harming any of the students. He killed his dad and his gf, then himself. Seems obvious he had a personal vendetta against his pop. There is NO evidence, at least reported yet, that the killer was on a random spree.

mikerott: Costas to advocate for bow & arrow control in 3..2..

First, a local writer has to write an editorial and then Bob can read it word for word.

Bow and arrows don't kill people, mentally deranged people with good aim kill people.

"a Wyoming college instructor still managed to wrestle with his 25-year-old son who carried out the attack and give his students time to flee the classroom, say police who hailed the actions as heroic."

1. It is not "heroic" to defend against your assailant, particularly your own offspring. His motivation being the escape of the students is not likely top of the list.

2. The students didn't escape anything. They weren't part of the plan.

Neighbor Heather Meier said she came home from work Friday afternoon after picking up her 7-year-old daughter from school, and the two saw Arnold's body still lying in the street. "As soon as we got home, we just shut the curtains," she said Saturday. "You know, tried to just watch some TV, have some snacks, mind our own business."

Great neighbors. "La la la la la..... body in the gutter.... just ignore it, kids. Who wants cookies?"

I'd imagine they mean a compound bow.
