SModcast has gone downhill, hasn't it subs? Kevin's started navel gazing instead of making new shiat.

These days some of my favorites of two years ago are dead, too. But Adam Carolla's still got nice stuff goin up. Not as many celebrity interviews these days, but he's still funny. Alison's news is the best part of many episodes, though. I'm SICK of interviews. Which is sad because her show is nothing but. The Andrew WK one was hilarious but mostly they're just boring to me. Yet another Hollywood guy or gal talkin' about how they became a Hollywood guy or gal and their feelings. I'd much rather have something new brought to the table.

is good if you like technology. Bit long winded, though. Sword and Laser and Writing Excuses are good, if they still exist.

Alison's Your New Best Friend is Alison Rosen's podcast. She's not as good as Adam on the punchlines, but she digs into her guests slowly and inexorably with wit and pulls out gems like the fact Andrew WK wants to eat his own poop one day.

I haven't listened to my Podcasts in a while because I've been reading on my Kindle or watching MST3K movies and TV shows on the old iPod, but here are some of my long-time favourites:

Quirks and Quarks (Canadian science news show)
Science Show (from Scientific American)
TED Talks (video and audio versions)
Ricky Gervais Podcast (Ricky Gervais, Karl Pilkington and Steve DeMerchant)
Free Full Videos Online.com (Old movies)
Librevox (free classic audio books read by volunteers, some very good, some not so good)
Vintage video (old movies and TV shows)
Vintage cartoons (public domaine, some very good, some not so good)
Teletoon Detour Pilot Project (11 cartoon show pilots from 2009, some very interesting and funny, none taken up)
The Comedy Mixtape (short clips from comedians, some well known)
Wait, wait, don't tell me! (radio news game show from Chicago NPR--liberal leaning)
Smodcast & Jay and Silent Bob Get Old (various chatter and memories from Keven Smith & Co, NSFW)
More or Less (now finished, with Tim Hartford, popular economist and other, debunks news)

Good to see another Bugler on Fark!

The BBC's Friday News Quiz, hosted by Sandy Toksvig is very funny.
Also from the BBC, "From Our Own Correspondent" is a great news program.

Phill and Phil's Perfect Ten is extremely funny and also spectacularly vulgar.

CBC's Quirks and Quarks has already been mentioned, but I have to give very high marks to the comedy debate show, The Debaters:

Cognitive Dissonance. That podcast is made for Farkers (unless you're a Fark Independent™).
2012-12-01 01:32:57 AM
The only ones I listen to on a regular basis are WTF, Nerdist, and The skeptics Guide to the Universe.

JerseyTim: The BS Report just had a great interview with Nate Silver.

2012-12-01 02:17:31 AM
Also late, but Penn's Sunday School is a great one, too.

Possibly the best show on the Ace Network.
2012-12-01 02:27:59 AM
A bunch of podcasts on the TWiT network.

I used to have more but my commute time was reduced to 15 minutes from 45 with a job change.

shameless: Christopher Titus

Holy shiat, I thought I was the only one.

Reduced FROM 45? I'd kill a man for a 45 minute commute.

Point of Inquiry: secular/humanist/etc. advocacy, and interviews with interesting people that leave me thinking.
Savage Love: Dan Savage, the gay sex columnist. Who is gay, and is a sex columnist. :D
Decode D.C.: not many entries, but it's interesting stuff about politics and Washington.
Speculative Grammarian: linguistic humor digest. I don't really grok "Linguistics Made Difficult", their live chat/interview series, but what got me hooked were the humor pieces.
The Escort Mission: three gamer friends discussing games and gizmos and whatever else they're into this week.
The Professional Left: a husband-and-wife lefty blogger team dissects the previous week, hilariously, indignantly, righteously, unapologetically.
The Rachel Maddow Show: official online download-point for episodes of Rachel Maddow's weeknightly news commentary show on MSNBC.
The Stephanie Miller Show: not full episodes of her three-hour morning show (I listen to too much else to have time for three-hour podcasts, I prefer to catch it live), but this link gives me usually about 15-30 minutes of highlights of the day's episode.

Another vote for The Bugle. Snark about news and politics, intelligent satire, and stupid jokes -- it should be Fark's official podcast.
2012-12-01 10:42:32 AM

doglover: slayer199: my commute time was reduced to 15 minutes from 45 with a job change.

Reduced FROM 45? I'd kill a man for a 45 minute commute.

You'd kill a man, but you won't move closer to your job?

Podcasts I listen to religiously:
Adam Carolla
Hollywood Babble On

Podcasts I wish I had more time to listen to:
Joe Rogan
Chris Titus

Podcasts I gave up on:
Jay & Silent Bob Get Old

Thanks guys!!
2012-12-01 12:44:59 PM
look for Tales from the South podcast on iTunes, Youtube & Stitcher. True stories told by the Southerners who lived them. Recorded in front of a live audience every Tuesday at Starving Artist Cafe in North Little Rock, Arkansas. this subby is the production engineer and editor of the show. ENJOY!
2012-12-01 01:05:24 PM
A couple podcast episodes in particular I really liked - "WTF With Marc Maron" and Penn Gillette (he went to clown school!), and "Here's The Thing with Alec Baldwin" and Billy Joel.  Entertaining.
2012-12-01 01:35:30 PM
Subby here. Some of the podcasts I get enjoyment from are:

Red Bar Radio
Nobody Likes Onions
Uhh Yeah Dude
Adam Carolla
Wreckless Media Radio

Some of the ones that have let me down lately have been
WTF with Marc Maron
Nerdist (great guests, but Chris Hardwick kinda sucks)
Comedy Bang Bang

And as cool as the podcast is, I can´t listen to Penn's Sunday School ust because of that cackle of his.

But I will certainly listen to all your recommendations, thanks!!

The Vergecast although Josh Topolsky is very much a love/hate kind of character, you either enjoy his type of hosting or you don't.
2012-12-01 07:08:18 PM
I am another that has given up on most of the Smodcast podcasts, however Hollywood Babble on is still great and I also am still hooked on Tellem Steve Dave.
Lexicon Valley is a great nerdy podcast about language. Think Radiolab but for English Majors.
I also just started listening to How did this get made? , which is commentary on bad movies.
Finally, I just discovered My brother, my brother and me, which regularly makes me shoot coffee out my nose with laughter.
