Here's the deal Google. When I'm reading Fark or anything else online and a see a name or word or place that I don't recognize, I google it. What you have compiled about me is a list of things I've never heard of.

I don't know what you're going to sell to me with that information.

People still use Google for searching?

startpage.com (ixquick)

Essentially you use them as a Google proxy. You type in your search string, they send your search to Google and return the results without recording your IP, without using tracking or ID cookies, and without logging your searches. SSL is available, so your ISP can't see what you search for, and they offer free proxy service as well. They even anonymize your image searches.

Why would you use Google?

Isn't the whole idea of using a search engine to tap into the hive mind anyway? Why would I want a search engine that mimicked my brain if my brain can't come up with the answer to whatever it is I am trying to find out? No, I would want a search engine that acted like it has the cumulative knowledge of all brains. When I am trying to figure out how to determine the area of a curved surface, I don't need it suggesting I watch more curvy naked bodies.
