No mention of restitution. Doing chores around the house is insufficient. His mom and dad are not the victims here yet they are reaping the benefits. Family, including mom and dad, should be made liable to make the real victims whole again. Consequences don't need to be imprisonment but they should be more substantial then making sure you put away your socks and underwear, clear the table after dinner and take out the trash.

Basil: We presently have a 300 year old punishment system and are wondering why it doesn't work

Simple - because our 300-year-old 'revenge' system gets more votes from the rubes than a system to actually reform.

Tyranny of the majority. The fly in the ointment of democracy.

Putting him in jail will create a dependant personality. A criminal record will kill any chance for anything more than a base wage. Jail time will simply mean higher risk of reoffending.

Ordering a juvie to do chores, and to learn from his mistakes; to give him a chance; wow. That is how it SHOULD work.

Prison? What is it for any more? NOT rehabilitation. No. Purely punitive. And that is not what it was originally intended to be.

We presently have a 300 year old punishment system and are wondering why it doesn't work.................................................................. .................

best part forever?

Looks like a perfect candidate for the get-out-the-vote wing of the BNP.
