Biggest difference between a storm like this and a hurricane is time. With a major windstorm, you get wind at 60mph with gusts of 90 to 100 mph lasting a few hours. With a hurricane, you get constant, straightline winds of 90 to 100 mph lasting three days. Same with blizzards, which is why NOAA has decided to start naming major blizzards as well.

MrSteve007: Generation_D: Standard Northwest storm. I guess you guys would call that a hurricane where you live.

Yep, if it happened on the other coast, we'd get 24/7 news coverage for a week.

Urban flooding:

Interestingly, we nearly doubled our *all-time* record for rain in one day. Doubled. But here in the Pacific NW, this kind of weather is called "November."

if it happened on the other coast, we'd be looking at something more than highways in the country, a bridge, and a small suburb.

/ bad weather sucks wherever it strikes... suffering nature isn't a competition

jack21221: ChipNASA: One-Eyed Willie?

/I don't get it.

I don't get it either. Before clicking the link, I wondered if they were talking about a hurricane this late in the season (one eye = hurricane eye?) Also, it turns out that if we had two more named storms, the second would have been named William. THEN this headline would have made more sense. As it stands, I don't get it.

the goonies took place in astoria.
