You could just take the dollars and buy gold and silver, Jerry. Not sure you were aware of this. FDR's ban on gold trade ended a long time ago.

All those compannies that Beck and his ilk do comercials for keep warning that the economy will collapse so you'd better by gold, all accept U.S. currency.

It's almost as if they don't believe their own hype.

I would agree to his request. I would buy Goldline bullion for him. See how much he likes the 30% processing fee and the additional 30% processing fee to convert it back to money. An effective 60% pay cut should get him to STFU.
