(Chicago Trib)   Notre Dame is 10-0, and the BCS will undoubtedly find a way to make up some sort of mathematical formula that will keep them out of the #1 spot, but the Coach's poll should get it right   ( chicagotribune.com) divider line

Poor old Notre Dame...they never get any respect in the media.

Oregon and Kansas State would both roll right through Notre Dame. ND is third, at best. Alabama is better than ND but the Tide laid an egg yesterday.

Popcorn Johnny: Notre Dame is the most over-ranked team in recent memory.

They were overrated for too long, and they firmly belong behind K-State and Oregon this year (unless those teams lose), but I'm guessing your last few years were a blank? They started the season unranked. They climbed up the polls because their opponents were overrated, namely Michigan State and BYU. I'll agree this is the weakest I can ever remember seeing an undefeated #3, but to be fair, they've won tough games when teams behind them have slipped up. FSU would be ahead of them if not for N Carolina St. Ohio State would be in the running if not for tattoogate. Their offense is meh but that defense is legit. The top teams they've played turned out to be not nearly as strong as everyone thought, but they haven't had any free rides, either. BC was their first real gimme all season. OK, Purdue isn't good either, but K-State played Missouri St. and North Texas FFS. Oregon played bupkus until Week 4. The undefeated teams not named Notre Dame have basically had at least three bye weeks each.

On the flip side, despite being remarkably underrated while being the strongest conference in the country the prior few seasons, the SEC is WAAAAAY overrated this season. Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and LSU haven't beaten shiat outside their conference. The combined top teams' best OOC wins are a dismantling of a badly overrated Michigan team and A&M's squeaker over Louisiana Tech. I mean, jeepers, Mississippi St. made it as high as #11 beating this fearsome gauntlet of powerhouses: Jackson State, Auburn, Troy, South Alabama, Kentucky, Tenneseee, Middle Tennessee. Auburn and Arkansas are usually competitive but this year they're awful, and Florida just got exposed by a Sun Belt team.

As long as nobody's played nobody, Clemson's gotta be frustrated looking at all the SEC teams packed in front of it when their only sin was losing to 9-1 Florida State.

Malcolm_Sex: I don't understand why Norte dame should HAVE to join a conference and why it's so farkin terrible that they don't.

People hate notre dame as a tradition, which is one of the reasons they hate notre dame to begin with. They have traditions that acquired them fans across the country regardless of location . I like that Nd is an independent and schedules rivals from across the country. I like that they still graduate at a high rate. I like that they still punish players for breaking team rules. I've never seen the Nd hate until I started reading the sports threads here on fark and jesus Christ I don't get it. They are undefeated. Rank them high. When they lose rank them lower. Till then maybe your team shouldn't have lost.

Hahahahaha, Sagarin's rankings actually left Alabama untouched at #1, and moved A&M into 4th, bumping ND to 5th.

Oregon is simply unstoppable at this point. You can't negotiate with them, you can't defend against them, you can only hope that Chip Kelly will be merciful and not grind you into the dirt. Oregon hasn't scored less than 40 points IN EVERY GAME THIS YEAR. They're like a damn tsunami of football. You issue a warning to everyone and try to stay out of it's way.

Don't worry. They'll get embarrassed by UGA or Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and life will go on.

I believe that formula would be "doesn't belong to a conference, so fark them."

I'll have some of whatever subby has been smoking. ND will be #3, right where they belong.
