Retro? None of these are retro. They're actual old games.

Oblig. : This is a retro game. Those are classic/ vintage.

Seriously though- no Afterburner, Road Rash, Dizzy, Creatures, Commander Keen, Cannon Fodder, Lemmings, Megaman.. actually, there are too many in general to have a top 10, at least without restricting the list to a specific genre.

Not sure if 1985 is retro enough but this is my all time favorite

"Retro" does not mean the same thing as "Classic", which is just a way of saying "old and popular".

Still, an excellent list of classic games.

poot_rootbeer: "Retro" apparently means "I am too young to have played these games when they were new, but I heard some old guys talking about these on Xbox Live once so I downloaded the ROMs."

I too was hoping for a list of modern retro-styled games, rather than classics. Oh well.

Some of my favorite retro-styled games:

Cave Story
Super Meat Boy
Super Crate Box
They Bleed Pixels
BIT.TRIP series

Some people above have added some great arcade games already so I will stick to retro computer games:

M.U.L.E. (awesome multiplayer)
Lode Runner (could create your own levels)
Seven Cities of Gold (one earth based world or random maps and open world to boot)
Ultima 1-5 (1-3 very retro dungeon crawling, 4 was awesome and 5 let you load from 4)
Pools of Radiance (sweet rpg beginnings)
Zorks (less was more)
Carmen San Diego (when learning games ere fun)
Tecmobowl (way better than the soccer listed)

Mog32Kupo: Egoy3k: I'm hesitant to call the PSX 'retro'

Well when is the cutoff for 'retro'

shiat, the graphics alone can consider it retro. 1996 was 16 years ago...

Wiki says (I know...) that retro "generally implies a vintage of at least 15 or 20 years. For example clothing from the 1980s or 1990s could be retro."

So, looks like anything before 1998...

Fails without Miner 2049'er for the Atari 8bit, and Road Rash on the Sega.

Apparently the author never owned a computer before 2005. There are many older PC games that buried their console and arcade equivalents.

Not a bad list....I wouldn't consider all of those "retro" though.

Gauntlet - hell yes. I dropped a ton quarters into that game in the 80s. I think it was the first (or one of the first) > two-player games. The best part was trying to make it through the "Death" level. "The Wizard needs food badly!"

And Super Mario 3. I still have that on NES ROM and play it every now and then. One of the best 8-bit NES games evar.

List is missing (to name a few) -

Marble Madness
Smash TV
1942 (I was God on this)
Star Wars
After Burner
Spy Hunter
Ninja Gaiden (arcade)
