RanDomino: Good, then let's commend him for that... not for being part of a terrible war.

Still missing the point. The last thing you want is soldiers feeling empowered to decide which wars to fight. That road leads right to military dictatorship.

RanDomino: Thanks for what? Being a pawn in a pointless, futile imperial adventure that cost the lives of millions of innocent people?  If he was a willing participant, he's nothing but a murderer.

You're a dick and a troll in addition to being an asshole.
Regardless of his service in Vietnam, his dedication to a cause that's greater than himself is wonderful. The service in the National Guard for that length of time is commendable. Do you realize how many times he has worked tirelessly in support of his country, state and neighbor? How many floods and blizzards did he deploy for? More than you have. How many times has his wife and kids watch their Dad and husband leave when the commander called and said we need all hands on deck. These calls come at the worst times. Not only for his neighbors, but also for his family, who are more than likely having to deal with the same events, but alone. Sometimes they don't come back. A lot times he has probably missed a family function, how many weddings, funerals, kids plays and birthdays were missed because of his dedication to duty and desire to serve his country, state and neighbor.

Proof that snarky headlines aren't always the best fit. Good job, subby. And to the Vietnam Vet: Enjoy your retirement. Yours is about as earned as it can be.
