Some people still play fireplace DVDs? Don't they know there's a whole fireplace channel on cable right between the sunset channel and the rotisserie chicken channel (realistic chicken scent in an eco-friendly spray bottle costs extra)?

OK, well, when I was a dispatcher, I took a call from a subscriber one night, panicked because she heard screaming and yelling from her next-door neighbor's. Sent my guys over, they did a perimeter check and heard nothing unusual, knocked at the door. Neighbor answered "Yeah, I was watching TV, it was turned up a little loud." Can we check? "Sure."

It was the TV. Turned up a little loud.

I've heard similar stories of people watching horror movies with the volume turned up too high.

Turned out to be a a BBQ reflected in the glass.

Better safe than scorched.

A neighbor once thought the lint coming out the lint exhaust for the dryer was smoke from a fire.

Granted, they just came over and knocked on the door and didn't leap to conclusions.

At first I thought the headline meant the DVD player had caught fire. That would've been good advertising for the realism of the DVD, I think.

Good lord, I had that happen to me once. Had a fire going in my, get this, fireplace... Ooooo, horrible. The guys who came out, cops and firemen laughed; but then the apartment complex wasn't very happy when they charged them for the firetruck being called and management tried to say I was responsible for the costs.

I rather enjoy sometimes having one of my closest friends being a lawyer.

Emergency responders said the TV screen fire video was quite relaxing.

"We even stayed and watched the fire for a while afterward," police officer Goran Gunnarson said.

I have doubts that this story is real

This happens at my Dad's house. Every single time someone walks from the kitchen to the living room, they see the reflection of the fire in the fireplace perfectly superimposed on his neighbor's entire garage door. It's fun during the holidays to watch new guests run to the window in a state of panic then suddenly see the fire "disappear"
