The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system and did not injure anyone at the scene, police said.

Either he's a bad shot, or the Xbox is bulletproof. The later is a hilarious thought, the former is unlikely.

Yeah Halo blows chunks and when I first got it the same thought crossed my mind. but damn. there's always Splinter Cell and Deus Ex is on its way.

...fired a single gunshot into the game system, disabling it, police said. The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system ...

How did it disable it if it didn't penetrate it?
Is the XBox bulletproof?

Finally! Proof that Elvis is still alive.

2003-12-02 4:06:29 PM
Yep, Elvis IS alive, and surrendering.

fired a single gunshot into the game system, disabling it, police said. The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system

So he shot a bullet into the system, did it didn't really go into the system?
I smell conspiracy. Back, and to the left.

We've all wanted to do this from time to time.

2003-12-02 4:28:13 PM
I've always hear the Duck Hunt was more fun with a 9mm.

Crazy gamers with guns and anger management problems frighten me to no end.

2003-12-02 4:37:45 PM
I always wanted to shoot that stupid, laughing dog in Duck Hunt. Bastard!

2003-12-02 4:41:22 PM
I blame the violence in video games today. Think of the chidren!

2003-12-02 4:41:38 PM
I don't know about the Xbox, but the Game cube can take a licken and keep on ticken.

Perhaps he should get himself an aimbot, yeesh.

Oh, goody. Thanks to Fark, today I learned that there's a registered sex offender living a couple of blocks over, and now there's some loony shooting up innocent game systems a couple of miles away. And I thought I lived in a safe neighborhood.

And that, folks, is why I carry a .45 and not a 9mm.

2003-12-02 8:12:03 PM
I'm gonna need a bigger gun.

"Xbox... like a rock."

It's good to flip out and shoot something together.

2003-12-02 8:14:14 PM
Thank God no game system was harmed in the incident.

2003-12-02 8:14:34 PM
WTF? Did he throw the bullet at the xbox? I want pics of this wounded xbox!

2003-12-02 8:14:42 PM
I think they meant that the bullet didn't pass completely through the box. It probably did penetrate into it though. :-)

Gamplayerx, I wouldn't worry too much about a registered sex offender until I had more info. Most people immediately think rapist/pedophile, but it's just as likely to be a gay guy who got busted under some BS sodomy law.

2003-12-02 8:15:05 PM
They mean the bullet did not go out the opposite side of the system and into anything else.

Spent the first four years of my life in Edgewater. Then my folks moved to PG County, much closer to DC. Somehow, this article actually makes me feel safer as a result of their decision. Never thought that'd be the case.

A .45 has much less penetration (especially into solid objects) than a 9mm. It'a farkin' subsonic.

Why do Americans love guns, but know jack shiat about basic handling or ballistics?

say "Duck Hunt" 5 times fast....

huh huh...

.i got nuttin'.

Mmmm.... Ghost Recon... where any weapon will penetrate the XBOX... Haven't tried it, but paypal me $150 and I will. AR-15 vs. Xbox
Will video the whole thing and submit.

2003-12-02 8:24:07 PM
thats why i will never bother buying a 9mm....waist of time and money.

2003-12-02 8:24:19 PM
C0rf...be glad your outta Edgewater, unless of course you moved to Bowie.

Living only a few miles out of Edgewater myself, this story doesn't suprise me in the least...

2003-12-02 8:25:03 PM
If he tried that with any of MY game systems, there'd be 2 shootings to report.

2003-12-02 8:25:55 PM
When I first read the article, I thought it would be about someone getting pissed about losing a game to the computer and then shooting it.

I started to remember a kid I knew who smashed his nintendo with a hammer (also disabling it) after the computer beat him with a complete BS 99-yard-run on tecmo super bowl. His guy got blocked at the line of scrimmage and knocked down. The AI was so stupid that none of the other defenders could catch up to the RB (Thurman Thomas) No Angle of Pursuit!!

Ah, those were the days. I remember video game frustration as being anger like none other because you couldn't do anything about it. You can't really beat up the computer.

I disagree, I think your average American knows a lot about em. Then again, I grew up in the South, so it goes hand-in-hand with learning the story of little baby Jesus.

The surprise is that this guy is toting a handgun in Maryland, where such devices are treated like lepers by state politicians.

2003-12-02 8:32:10 PM
It didn't penetrate because the XBox is so HUGE! It's gigantic!

Gah... GIS for "Duck Hunt" is no good at all.

"Richie loved to use .22s because the bullets are small and they don't come out the other end like a .45. See, a .45 will blow a barn door out the back of your head and there's a lot of dry cleaning involved, but a .22 will just rattle around like Pac-Man until you're dead."

2003-12-02 8:37:53 PM
Xbox's are bulletproof? That should be on the product specs somewhere.

2003-12-02 8:46:02 PM
I had a friend who took a hammer to an X-Box. He beat away at the thing: NO visible sign of damage on the outside. He opened it up and the hard drive was all bashed up.

That X-Box case is damn tough...

fired a single gunshot into the game system, disabling it, police said.

For some reason, that sentence made me laugh...

I could just imagine the follow up story.

"X-Box taken to local hospital. Will never be able to walk again. Little Johnny cries."

The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system

So the month they spent getting Linux to boot on it was not entirely wasted.

2003-12-02 8:53:33 PM
My cousin and I played Halo in two-player co-op mode and we almost beat it. We ran out of time (I was there on vacation and had to go home) just before we could finish, though.

On a side note, I've never destroyed a console, but the vibration function in my PS2 controller is pretty crapped out and I blame Twisted Metal: Black. I'm surprised the controller still works after all the times I threw it on the floor in utter frustration. Still a fun game, though :)

2003-12-02 8:55:27 PM
germaniac- standard .45 rounds are not subsonic (although i'm sure you can find subsonic rounds for use with a suppressor)...you know that REALLY loud noise when you fire one? oh wait, you probably never have....

2003-12-02 8:56:38 PM
The bullet didn't penetrate the xbox because it's protected by supernatural enchantments! Proof that microsoft dabbles in the black arts!

2003-12-02 8:57:43 PM
Ditto, that vid rox0rz my box0rz! Did you see the (I think Game Informer) article where they flushed a GBA in a toilet and three days later it came back on? They named it "Jesus."

LOLORZ!!!11

Oh, lighten up, germaniac. It was a freakin' joke. I couldn't tell you right off which penetrates better, but the .45 does have more energy in ft-lbs. And I know quite a bit about firearms handling and ballistics, thank you very much.

By the way, I did a quick search, and here's a link to some penetration test data on 9mm vs .45ACP. In this particular test, the .45 ammo penetrated further into sand, so...um...there! ;-P hehe

"Bubba shot the X-box last night"

2003-12-02 9:07:38 PM
germaniac Uh, bzzt. Wrong, but thanks for playing!

Muzzle energy:
9mm Ultra 350 ft-lbs
9mm Parabellum (9mm Luger) 364 ft-lbs
.45 ACP 373 ft-lbs
.45 Colt 497 ft-lbs
.45 Winchester Magnum 1227 ft-lbs

Okay, so the .45 ACP is *slightly* slower, but still supersonic - adn all that really matters is energy anyway.

(Refer to http://matrix.dumpshock.com/raygun/basics/casedata.html for full chart data.)

It was an X-box? He was doing us a favor.

2003-12-02 9:29:02 PM
Sure he wasn't playing Simpsons: Hit and Run?

Friggin' Cletus and his friggin' flatmeats, I'll teach that friggin' cracker to make me chase after him...bastards...they'll pay, they'll all pay...

Never do I get more angry than when playing Fuzion Frenzy. Fortunately, the ones perpetrating the villainy ususally happen to be my friends, so I can hit them.
