Faerie tales are SUPPOSED to be scary. They were the original horror stories. They were tales to teach children caution, of the consequences for being a douche. They are supposed to give wee chill'runs some reason to be careful and cautious. Kids movies are supposed to have scary elements. They are learning experiences within a relatively safe environment. Fear teaches, as much as warm fuzzies, and tends to stick...

The Black Hole was the one that freaked me out. Not so much from the movie but the fact that it made me realize that life will never be fair. Good people will die for no reason and there is nothing you can do about it. Seems a bit silly now but it was a life altering event when i was a little kid.

\also the Skeksis from the Dark Crystal.

While Labyrinth was a freaky movie, I don't think David Bowie's obsession with Sarah was all that bizarre. He was obviously a representation of her subconscious/imagination and defeating him was statement of choice that she was ready to grow up and accept adult responsibilities - that she wasn't going to be "ruled" by her imaginary worlds anymore. Even as a kid I got that. If you didn't understand that then the entire movie didn't make sense.

Full frontal cartoons, glowing green death orbs, and WW2 zombies. Yeah my friends didn't even believe me something so cool existed. So naturally the next weekend I had a sleep over. Ahh! That made for a great 3rd grade year.

FunkOut: I was never scared of any movies as a child but a National Geographic article about black holes and supernovas freaked me out.

Heh...I got scared as a little kid not by Heffalumps and Woozles but by reading about the end of life on earth after the Sun died in an astronomy book.

Willie Wonka, saw it as a 10 year old, and it was just ....... weird. Why is this movie deliberately effing with me. Grown ups couldnt explain it either.

I see it now and its great, at the time it was just .. disturbing.
