I don't see you guys rating the kind of mating I'm contemplating.

/It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity to be looking at the board not looking at the city.

Fark_Guy_Rob: Can someone explain this to me.....am I supposed to be racist and sexist - or not?

It's like there is some ridiculous double standard where I'm not allowed to say, 'Ugh - I don't want a black chick on my chess team because black chicks are no good at chess' but I am allowed to say 'Wow - this black chick is great at chess and that's really amazing because she's BLACK and a GIRL! Lord knows black people aren't much for thinking and a girl?! A Girl who can play chess! AMAZING!!!'

Negative racism and sexism is wrong.
But positive racism and sexism is heartwarming?

The problem with those that say they are 'ignoring race' is that they don't.

Want proof?

And YOU focused on race. The article doesn't.

SevenizGud: master category here - it isn't that hard

all I did was memorize MCO-11 and 101 opening traps

I used to do exhibitions where I would play simultaneous blind (I never saw the board, the opponents had shrouded boards and they would call out the position of the move on their turn when I got to them), and at one point I played 20 simultaneous semi-blind games this way. I was 18-1-1 that day, with the only loss coming on an illegal move where I jumped a bishop over my own pawn on move 38 (one bad move in a total of nearly 800 moves). The tie came against a decent player who went french defense exchange as white and was clearly playing for the draw the whole way, so we drew by agreement at move 50 because I had a plane to catch. I had space advantage and positional advantage with material equality, so I don't think he would get the draw, but with the DQ earlier, what did I care?

Cool story, bro.

I'm surprised that none of the other players have objected to those earbuds she's wearing. Or am I the only one who saw that episode of Cheers where the guys used a chess program and a radio to help Sam beat Robin Colcord?

TimeCubeFan: Logic and reason are not discriminatory. Since when was it surprising a non-caucasian would be good at it? We 'Murkins and them darnd Rushns didn't invent dat dar game. Hell, we owe Chess and most of science to folks with darker skin. Can we finally destroy the stereotype now? Reality isn't trumpets and emotional string sections whenever Hollywood churns another "HOW DO I REECHZ THEEZ KIDZ" rise from poverty films. Sometimes the better player is slightly different from the norm. Slightly and insignificantly. Brains are all gray, and icky.

Logic and reason may not be, but regardless of economic class inner-city schools aren't noted for churning out chess masters or latin scholars. And beyond that, it's only been a handful of generations since this would have been at best exactly the kind of freakshow story you seem to think it is. There are people still alive who can remember a time when even having the opportunity to try probably would have been impossible for her. We're all *very* proud of all of you who came in here to let us know that you're so ethically and morally advanced that you can't even SEE color, but it's still a notable first and worthy of accolade and remembrance.

Kanemano: what were you doing in middle school?

I played chess for a while in high school - competitions and the whole nine yards. Gave it up because I didn't enjoy memorizing openings. I started playing because the high school coach came to the middle school and played a room of 40 kids who were interested at the same time. I was the second to last one still standing.

Actually went to nationals one year. Went 3-4-1 I think.

So is she special because she's black, female or just freaking awesome at chess?
