Never heard of any of them, but gave them all a listen.

Avant, 'You & I': Didn't like it. I can't stand contemporary R&B.

Yeasayer, 'Reagan's Skeleton': Didn't like it. Very bland.

Shovels & Rope, 'O' Be Joyful': Liked it a lot. By far the best of the 5 songs. I may pick up one of their albums.

The Stray Birds, 'Dream In Blue': Didn't like it. Very, very bland.

Robert Francis, 'Perfectly Yours': Liked it.

I did too - I vote for that.

CSB: When I read the headline I leaned over to my lunch companion and said: "I'll bet lunch it's a handful of hipster bands that write love songs in minor keys and a black artist or two to prove that NPR isn't entirely filled with pasty white suburbanites."

Got my lunch paid for.
