Killer Cars: As much as I want the NHL here, I wouldn't accept it through the means of a douchebag owner poaching a team from a dedicated fanbase like Edmonton.

Also, just how "bad" or "outdated" is Rexall Place? Key Arena is absolutely a dump, but at least on television, Rexall Place seems okay. Does it lack luxury boxes and other amenities? I've never actually been there.

it's not outdated, really. It's just small(16k seats),in a relatively out of the way part of town, and owned by a non-profit group(Northlands) that rents it to the Oilers, so they(Northlands) keep the revenue from concerts and non sporting events.

Katz essentially wants the city to build him an arena with tax dollars, then sign it over to him, so the Oilers get the profits from concerts and events held at the arena.

I'm an Edmontonian, and while i don't have an issue with the arena profits going to Katz and the tax dollars being repaid, what bothers me is that he basically wants to contribute 100m of it, and the city foots the bill for the rest of it. I know that in the long run, it'll profit the city via taxes on the "arena district" that will get built around it, but Katz isn't really willing to foot the bill for it, and that bothers me.

Mad Canadian:

The Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup before that happens. the heat death of the universe

the NHL would never allow a profitable team to be moved, I believe it has to get a unanimous vote from all the owners and it would never happen.

But... but there's no team in Atlanta for the Canadians to steal to correct this potential error.

Keep having this idea that the Oilers will move to Seattle and the Coyotes will move to Edmonton. The idea that the old Winnipeg Jets becoming the new Edmonton Oilers makes me giggle.

The thrashers weren't stolen, they were given away to a market that wanted them.

Do a survey of the city of Atlanta, and you will get a response of MAYBE ten percent of the population that cares enough to spend money to watch a hockey game at full NHL pricing.

And that's being optimistic
