Of all the money e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm e'er I've done,
Alas! it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all.

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
"Good night and joy be to you all"

Oh, all the comrades e'er I had,
They're sorry for my going away,
And all the sweethearts e'er I had,
They'd wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I gently rise and softly call,
Good night and joy be with you all.

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
"Good night and joy be to you all"

If I had money enough to spend,
And leisure time to sit awhile,
There is a fair maid in this town,
That sorely has my heart beguiled.
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips,
I own she has my heart in thrall,
Then fill to me the parting glass,
Good night and joy be with you all.

Diogenes: You're thinking of Taylor Swift.

No Taylor Swift sings pop songs. I was just thinking about it, I mean she wrote like an entire album dedicated to this guy breaking her heart. She won a ton of Grammy's for it. What's she going to do now that she's happy?

How does that guy feel that an entire album was written about him even if it was negative?

when my father died, my mother and sisters were picking standard church hymns for the music.
My brother and I let them do what ever they wanted with the other arrangements but on music, we said no.
Dad loved his country music and Hank Sr. most of all. They argued it wasn't "dignified" Fark that, Dad would have loved it. We won. In an effort of compromise, we did include "I Saw the Light" but finished with "Hey Good Lookin'"

Don't play pop songs at funerals, people. It's tacky beyond belief.

Now, if the deceased *requested* a song, then yeah, you kind of have to play it. But otherwise...skip it.

Aarontology: People really, really, really misinterpret the meanings of pop songs to a surprising degree.

I did a project for a friend of the family's 50th birthday where her family gave me lots of photos and I scanned them into a video presentation. Mom narrated and I overlaid some background music. One section was all about her and her husband's world travels. So I was looking for music appropriate to that theme.

Mom was getting impatient because I kept rejecting all her suggestions. "Travel" songs are terrible! About half of them are really about cheating and infidelity when you listen to them. "Leaving on a Jet Plane." "The Wanderer." I ended up going with "Fly Like An Eagle." But yeah, the whole thing made me think "people don't really listen to or understand lyrics, do they?"

Their daughter is worse. She listens to lyrics but fails to understand metaphors.

Just an aside, I really liked Adele's theme song for the upcoming 'Skyfall' 007 film. Got a real Shirley Bassey tone going on that.
