A Sony Ericcson (sp?) Bluetooth adapter for the stereo can do the job amazingly well.

So with a Slingbox I could pay Comcast for a single HDTV receiver, then send the signal to different TV that has wifi capability? Would both TVs need to be viewing the same channel?

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Wife wants to watch her soap operas in the bedroom, don't want to shell out for a second HDTV, especially since no one else watches any TV in this house.

Yes, both would be based on the signal from the same receiver box, so they'd both be doing the same thing. I used to do Slingbox tech support and I swear to God about 6% of the people who called in accidentally called it a slingblade.

Not quite. Think of Slingbox output as a splitter cable that sits between your cable box (or Tivo, in my case) and your TV. The signal gets split and goes to your TV and your LAN. Any device on your LAN that has Slingbox software on it can watch that same signal. Also, you can set it up to watch your TV over the internet, but it's still that same signal that's going to your TV. I don't know of any TVs that have Slingbox software built it, but I haven't shopped for a TV in a while.

The cool thing is you can control your TV remotely because Slingbox comes with an IR blaster. So, you could program your Tivo via Slingbox if you forget to record a show, change the channel, watch your pre-recorded DVR library, etc.

Slingbox will broadcast whatever is being watched on the main TV, so you'll just have to surf porn while she watches her stories ;-)

Yeah, the Slingbox itself might let you stream 1080 content, but for $300 (or less) you can get any number of small devices that can stream media over your LAN - heck, you could get a full-fledged PC to dedicate to one of your TV's as a HTPC. I even have a tiny Asus PC that I bought a while back which actually bolts to the VESA mount on the back of flat screen TV's.

What's cool about the Slingbox though is streaming your stuff out to yourself remotely over the internet when you're not home. I have Plex running on my fileserver, and that's epic win for streaming my 4 - 5 TB of downloaded content out to my devices when I'm away from home.... but it doesn't hook up to my cable box and let me stream the cable feeds like Slingbox does.

That said... you're probably going to need a really good connection to stream 1080 content to yourself over the internet. Solid upload at home and a nice download speed where you are remotely.

Yeah, I edited out a caveat about that before I hit "Add Comment." But back when I bought my Solo, I don't think the major cable/sat providers could do that yet.

Well, upon further investigation... the TV might not, but if you have a Boxee Box, a Logitech Revue or WD TV media player, it looks like you can load Sling Player on those and watch your TV on a TV.

I use the optical/toslink calbe - from the PC to the Surround sound receiver (HTPC). The receiver does not have HDMI, but it is enough to do the job.

Anyone got any experience with those tiny little android based 'HTPC's? Are they up to snuff and capable of playing say a raw remuxed bluray rip via dlna/upnp from a streaming server elsewhere on the lan? Stuff like these Cuboxes? I'm using full blown PCs as my media clients but wouldn't mind completely retiring them in favour of those ultra-small form factor devices, but only if they can handle those types of files if asked.

Two words: Heat dissipation. They do warm up a tad, I know mine does and I have the Solo.

Just use a brush attachment on a vacuum to take care of the dust catching crevices.

Love my SB, had it now for 2 years and it's a lifesaver when stuck in an airport, traveling, etc... anywhere I have even semi-decent service it works pretty well.

More interesting to me, although not a finished product yet, is the new take on the Boxee Box.

This time, it's a DVR for OTA broadcast TV, a media streamer for playing video files stored on your computer or on hard disks you plug into the box via USB, and a way to watch netflix/hulu/amazon.

Sounds perfect for people who want to get rid of cable.

sooooo clear something up for me....

Lets say someone from my home was watching TV, the same TV the slingbox is hooked up to.... say ESPN and im out over at my friends house and I want to watch CNN. would this slingbox let me watch ANY channel from that same TV connection that's being used to watch ESPN at home AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes and No. You will have to watch whatever is on that particular DVR/Cable/sat box at the time as it's a pass through type device. It simply takes the output and sends it across your LAN or out to the public internet where you can watch it. The only option is if it;s on a dual tuner box.
