North Korea needs its entire army to control its own population. It seems to pose a logistical challenge to suggest that they could occupy a country more than ten times more populous, even if they were allowed to take over unopposed.

I'd be afraid, aside from the minor fact that turning South Korea into an island is already within the scope of our missiles.

North Korea says it has missiles that can hit the US mainland

Maybe if they put the missiles on a ship, sail them to America and throw them at the shore.

I say we make them a deal. You fire 5 of yours and we will simultaneously fire 5 of ours, and we'll see where they all land. Talk is cheap. Blowing shiat up is our goddamn hobby and, for better or worse, we're pretty darn good at it.

3. Missiles get shot down by badass missile defenses
I keep seeing folks say this.

What mythical missile defense system do you folks believe has been deployed?

This one. It's by no means an impenetrable shield, but it's way ahead of North Korea's long-range missile program.

soupafi: Wouldn't china step in before they try something?

Maybe. China doesn't want a refugee crisis, and they don't want another western-style democracy on their border, so they don't want Best Korea to do something that will get them stomped. But they also enjoy North Korea trolling us, because it distracts our navy away from China's shenanigans in the East and South China seas.

Idiots who think this is a North Korea vs. U.S. conflict need to realize that South Korea is MUCH larger and far better-armed than North Korea. It's not like 1950. Any exchange of fire is going to be between North and South, and will kill a zillion Koreans, and relatively few American GIs. And end in a unified Korea with Seoul as the capital.

ChipNASA: Twilight Farkle: What the heck are those supposed to be?

OK Smart Guys.

Explain to me why a MIRV is going UP?!?!?

[ image 700x874]

My impression was that it was part of the last rocket stage and not a Mirv itself. If you look at the old pictures of reentrys it was always hard to spot the MIRV vs Staging. Video is what hit it home due to the behavior of the MIRV.

Watch this video and you can see what I'm talking about [Kinda as it's not a mirv but the concept is the same with the vehicle emerging from debris].

It's also a time lapse photo so maybe it's part of the decoy system [Metal Balloons, etc,]

/I don't know is my final answer

And not a single fark was given by me.

They're not going to attack us. 1) their missiles can't hit anywhere but Alaska; 2) their nuclear program is a joke; 3) they are not actually crazy. They know that any attack would result in their utter destruction in response; 4) you can't blackmail money out of people if you actually do what you're threatening.

FTFA - It added that the missile deal between the US and South Korea was "another conspiracy of the master and the stooge to push the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the extreme... and ignite a war".

We are still at war with you, dumbass!

a.) Yeah, doubt they can reach.

b.) Yeah, even if they could reach we'd probably knock them out.

c.) Even if one of them DID land the response would be devastating to them. Sort of like saying "Hey, look! I can totally poke this pitbull in the eye with this stick!"
