Teufelaffe: The overall planet doesn't have an overpopulation problem. Specific areas of the planet (Japan, India, China, Korea, etc) do have an overpopulation issue though. It would be like 100 people living in only 10 rooms of a 200 apartment tenement building and someone saying that the building is too crowded.

Area-wise, you'll get no argument from me. However, we are using natural resources (fossil fuels, water, forests) at unsustainable rates. The earth simply cannot sustain a population this large indefinitely - we were able to extend the population limit with the green revolution but agricultural technology cannot be expected to keep pace. Eventually we end up with a 'too many mouths to feed' scenario.
