The area where I live was mined out years ago. There are lots of attractions left for rock hounds and tourists to visit. Just down the road is an underground mine tour. There are often lots of school buses in their parking lot, the place is a big hit with the little ones.

The mine tour has an area down from the road with loose rocks all over. The children are given tools and they get to smack rocks and see what kind of fluorescing rocks they may find. When you're up on the road walking your dog and you look down it looks like a miniature russian gulag with children at hard labor breaking rocks. Funny as hell to see.
