Feng shui doesn't work like that!

Or, more accurately, feng shui doesn't work at all.

Penn and Teller covered this on an episode of Bullshiat. They had 3 or 4 different Fung Shui "experts" all do the same set of tasks. They all gave mutually conflicting advice.

At its base, Feng Shui was originally set up as a series of guidelines on how to build your house in 3000-4000 BC China. Most of the original guidelines made a lot of sense, for instance, building your house so that the door faces south (because there are dust storms from the Gobi desert during winter) or for a certain side of the building to face the south (to catch the warmth of the sun). That stuff is just fine and it worked really well as a bit of common sense guidelines for arrangement of architectural elements.

Of course, during the intervening years, all manner of superstitious stuff got into what was originally just good common sense. And now, we're left with a superstitious and unworkable jumble of rules that just doesn't apply to modern buildings at all.

Tell the truth, the West Village is now about NYU students and transplanted Wisconsites than being gay.
