I've dealt with a family member who had a meth addiction. It's a heart-wrenching problem to live with, especially when there is a codependent who makes excuses for them and gives them money. I hope she is able to get past this. It's a pretty horrible sickness.

Persnickety: ...but Tyra Banks is to blame.

She has a talk show where she teaches women/girls to be a strong independent woman and to not let themselves be objectified

Then she hosts ANTM

She's an insecure, media whore who NEEDS the adoration of the rest of the world in order to convince herself she's happy and a success. An exploitative coont who couldn't care less about the rest of the people in the world.

Just like the large majority of the world's celebrities.

OtherLittleGuy: rynthetyn: Then Tyra Banks decided like a week after Jael's friend died that she was going to do a photoshoot that involved putting Jael in a coffin and it was horribly exploitative and designed to make her freak out. Not that Tyra Banks is to blame......

...but Tyra Banks is to blame.

/never forgot how she ripped a contestant a new one for not thinking her elimination was not life-and-death

When my girls were teenagers, they used to watch long marathon session of ANTM. They run them on one of those women's channels like Oxygen or Lifetime. IMO, the show is borderline child abuse. It's only borderline because all the girls are 18+, but just barely. There's almost never anyone older than 21. Because of that, all these stick figure girls are young, inexperienced and naive but they have to endure Tyra and gaggle of snooty gay men telling them their eyes didn't show enough "energy" in the last shoot when they were hung upside down over a pit of snakes while clowns tossed pickles at them - or similar crapola. Worse, a lot of these girls are not all that attractive and have massive body image issues and most are still carrying baggage from adolescence and high school. Maybe that's typical in the modeling world, but it all seems rather sad and desperate and makes the show exploitative in a particularly cruel way. The clock is ticking loudly for all of them. Imagine 23 years old being the end of your career because you've been told over and over that the only thing about you that matters is your looks - and there's always a new crop of 18 year olds that still have that 12 years old boy look that the fashion industry is obsessed with.

Yeah, I hate that show.

Rarely does one get to use the phrase "she would have been better of if she had gone in to porn".

insertsnarkyusername: wild9: Max Awesome: My brother is a meth-head. After years of ignoring his kids, stealing from our mother and expecting us all to tip-toe around him and support his ass if he had some actual disease like cancer he's completely burnt-out my sympathy.

I hate him.

I am not saying that you are wrong in any way for not liking your brother but, his drug of choice is a symptom of the disease of addiction.

Some people can drink one beer and that is all they want. I can't. One, turns into two, then four, then eight and so on. I am fine as long as I do not take that first drink.

/been sober nearly two years now
//no, I don't go to AA meetings. I find them depressing.
///Found new hobbies to occupy my free time.

What was it that stopped you? I can go through most of a bottle of whiskey a night and have for a couple years now. I keep trying sobriety and for some reason I don't have physical withdrawal symptoms, I just find it very, very boring.

I just decided one day that I had had enough. I needed a life style change to get out of my rut of working all the time and drinking in my free time. It was hard at first as I had to quit doing things I associated with drinking. Major one was bowling. Gawd I love bowling but it went hand in hand with drinking.

Picked up new hobbies like mountain biking, hiking, finding new greasy spoon's to eat at. Anything I could think of to keep from being bored by myself and wanting to drink.

I also went and saw a doctor because with boredom and loneliness for me, came sadness. He put me on the lowest dosage of an anti-depressant (zoloft) and it helps a ton.
