Meteorologists are a violent breed, slow to anger, but once riled up will kill without mercy until no one is left standing.

"So, we're looking at clear and pleasant with a low of 64 for tonight, mostly sunny and a seasonably perfect high of 82 for tomorrow, and on Saturday you might wanna steer clear of the clock tower for I am Become the Angel of Death and the Time of Atonement is Nigh! Now Biff with sports!"

"in Rand Paul's mind, the National Weather Service has ordered 46,000 hollow-point bullets.... In reality, ammunition and targets were ordered for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement. There was a clerical error on the paperwork -- the ammunition isn't going to the National Weather Service."

What the hell does NOAA need 46,000 hollow point bullets for? I know that fish scales *look* like armor, but shouldn't someone tell them the truth before they hurt themselves?

http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/ole/ole_about.html

NOAA's Office of Law Enforcement is responsible for carrying out more than 35 federal statutes. The agency's jurisdiction spans more than 3 million square miles of open ocean, more than 85,000 miles of U.S. coastline, the country's 13 National Marine Sanctuaries and its Marine National Monuments. It's also responsible for enforcing U.S. treaties and international law governing the high seas and international trade.

Forty milimeter would be about an inch and a half. Forty caliber is a little under a half inch, or just a tad above a .38 caliber round. I don't own any such weapon and prefer a 7.62 X .39. The government is obviously ordering such armament for close quarter street fighting, much like the .30 caliber carbines used in WWII. Gird thy loins.

28 years old South African woman was initiated into the kingdom of darkness by her parents when she was born. The evil spirits caused her to eat soil, paper, erasers, cloth and maize meal. Here's a fun one:

Word on the street is Obama is planning a fake assassination attempt on his life so he can then declare Marshall Law prior to November 6 in an attempt to post pone the election if he feels he is not going to get re-elected. Presumptive, Obama needs 4 more years before taking on this action but will move quicker if need be to null and void the Constitution; hence requiring a new constitution.
Word on the streets is the Military is planning a to formally charge Obama with treason and all those around him prior to the election. This action will supposedly terminate all elections as well as null and void the Constitution; hence requiring a new constitution.
We are screwed either way if the Constitutions becomes null and void and elections are terminated for any length of time.
This could be why those who are aligned with Obama are taking the action they are. Suggest you take similar action: food, water and shelter for months, maybe years.

Exactly, now STFU. There is NO REASON that the farking Weather Service would need or want ammo, so why do you farking do the 2 minutes of research that it would take to find out the real story here?

I mean, Jesus, it's one thing when it's got even the remotest chance of having a hint of 1/10 of 1% of plausibility, but when there is absolutely no reason at all that the story could ever be true, maybe this is the farking story you pass on?

And that goes double for Rand Farking Paul. Jesus, some of you people out there think this dimbulb knows what he's farking talking about? These guys can't keep their units straight. It is of course 40cm hollowpoint, which if I recall correctly was a caliber of shell used by Nazi Germany as main guns on the pocket battleship Adrmiral Graf Spee, which--get this--terrorized the South American trade lanes during the first part of the war. Obama is obviously planning on invading South America.

Obviously that's all librul spin. As someone pointed out upthread, they want to arm the fish. At least the socialist ones. This means that if you are out on the lakes and waterways, stay away from the fish that hang out in large schools, they are well armed.

Fisheries enforcement often involves:
-- "Natural" off-the-beaten track areas, where you'll frequently run into cartel grow ops
-- Fisheries, which among other things attract bears
-- People fishing illegally, i.e. playing with high explosives

46k bullets for patrolling the entire nation for 3-5 years (they only place orders occasionally) plus practice isn't all that bad.

SharkTrager: That doesn't explain hollowpoints though. It bothers me our law enforcement uses bullets our military is barred from using.

Again, wild areas with bears. You need a lot of stopping power for a rabid bear to even notice your unfortunately-placed ass.

Word on the street is that this person pisses himself anytime he sees a black person on television.

My Tea Party friend has just last night come up with this kick about how the Government planned the Sikh Temple shootings and the Aurora Theater shootings.

I rarely tell him his ideas are dumb (not that I don't think it), but I flatly told him that was stupid. And I cautioned him about saying that sort of stuff aloud. People who are in those situations or know someone who was, tend to not take too kindly to conspiracies.

InfoWars and Alex Jones are nutters.

But look: the increasing militarization of law enforcement is not a good thing. Every agency, no matter how obscure, wants its own SWAT team -- and accompanying budget. Every agency, no matter how typically non-violent its patch, wants bigger and badder weapons.

All those weapons are Chekov's rifle -- if they're there, they have to be used. That's why federal agencies use full-bore armed raids to accomplish what they once typically did with grand jury subpoenas and administrative methods. Hence, the Department of Education needs 870 shotguns and will use them for raids directed at purely white-collar crime.

I don't think this is a good thing.

Perhaps I'm just a little moody about the issue this week, because a federal agency sent a team to conduct a 7 a.m. raid to search my client's home and arrest him, at gunpoint, in front of his screaming 1, 3, and 5-year-old kids on a purely paper-based non-violent customs violation.

The reason why law enforcement uses hollow points is because they expand on impact and are designed to stay in you instead of going through you and hitting somebody else. And also they have the stopping power to bring somebody down with one shot.

I think this is so funny that these people who are talking bullet size and bragging about their guns like they are so much in the know are also scream "Omg! Why hollow points!" If they knew as much as they are trying to pretend they know they would know the reason why LEO uses hollow points is because hollow points are designed not to go through you.

Um, the Social Security Administration is also experiencing a "clerical error".

http://www.infowars.com/social-security-administration-to-purchase-17 4 -thousand-rounds-of-hollow-point-bullets/

Hollow points are more useful when you re-certify. More accurate and less hazardous to the shooter and the facility. Also less prone to over penetration. Some ranges prohibit non-hollow point ammunition as full metal jacket tends to damage metal targets and ricochet.

During "war games" recently held, armed security officers were used to defend head quarter locations that were housed in SSA offices.

I shoot a .40. It is a great round with excellent power vs. recoil. It is my round of choice for my personal handgun, but for home defense, you are better with hollow points due to increased stopping power and a lower likelihood of shooting the neighbors through the wall.

Frangible rounds are better as they will typically be stopped by interior walls, so you don't shoot your family. They are also more green as they don't have the lead exposure "normal" rounds would carry.

Best thing for home defense is a shotgun. Very unlikely to shoot the neighbors, as long as you aren't using a slug. Also easier to aim with significant stopping power. Not to mention the sound of a round being chambered is rather discouraging to those with ill intent.

That doesn't explain hollowpoints though. It bothers me our law enforcement uses bullets our military is barred from using.

In war, it is better to wound an enemy than kill them. It takes 1 man out of the fight if you kill him, but it takes 3 men out of the fight when you wound them (2 stretcher bearers and a victim). law enforcement wants to shoot to kill, so no need for cavitation rounds (as explained to me by my di in basic)

Actually that's outdated thinking. doyner: Welcome to the new American Derpocracy. Good job, Kentucky. You managed to make Oklahoma's Senatorial delegation look sane.

Let's not get carried away there. Oklahoma's senators are still plenty insane. For example, Inhofe said this this year:

Inhofe: "Well actually the Genesis 8:22 that I use in there is that 'as long as the earth remains there will be seed time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night,' my point is, God's still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous."

It's just that there's so much competition. Not so very long ago, you could be a screeching nutter and actually stand out in the GOP. Now, most of the GOP are screeching nutters, so it's hard to really distinguish yourself. You've gotta go full nutjob to get anybody to pay attention to your lunatic ravings.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries Office for Law Enforcement enforces various laws and treaties. They will be boarding ships suspected of illegal activities. The NOAA is also likely to have employees out in areas where wildlife is a very real threat.

Definitely the most questionable, but they do perform criminal investigations and I believe the ammunition is being directed to the Criminal Investigations Division..

Millitary used and lw enforcment use is an apples/oranges thing.

From Wikipedia:

The Hague Convention of 1899, Declaration III, prohibited the use in international warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body.[3] This is often incorrectly believed to be prohibited in the Geneva Conventions, but it significantly predates those conventions, and is in fact a continuance of the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868, which banned exploding projectiles of less than 400 grams, as well as weapons designed to aggravate injured soldiers or make their death inevitable. NATO members do not use small arms ammunition that is prohibited by the Hague Convention.

Despite the ban on military use, hollow-point bullets are one of the most common types of civilian and police ammunition, due largely to the reduced risk of bystanders being hit by over-penetrating or ricocheted bullets, and the increased speed of incapacitation. In many jurisdictions, even ones such as the United Kingdom, where expanding ammunition is generally prohibited, it is illegal to hunt certain types of game with ammunition that does not expand.[4][5] Some target ranges forbid full metal jacket ammunition, due to its greater tendency to damage metal targets and backstops

duggieb63: Um, the Social Security Administration is also experiencing a "clerical error".

http://www.infowars.com/social-security-administration-to-purchase-17 4 -thousand-rounds-of-hollow-point-bullets/

A shotgun may or may not kill your neighbors - depending on what the walls are made of.

I think the best answer to "what round should I use if I might be shooting an intruder in my home" is to link to theboxotruth.com

Actually that's outdated thinking. For about the last 15 years, there have been studies showing that most violent intruders under 30 years of age find the sound of a round being chambered sexually arousing, with the physical effects of the arousal being equivalent to a PCP high, so watch your ass.

This is true. If you're thinking about home defense, remember that while a certain class of criminal will still advance after hearing the sound of a shotgun cocking, no criminal will stick around when they hear the sound of a chainsaw revving up.

There are dozens of Federal law enforcement agencies in the US. The FBI is the most extensive with the largest jurisdiction, but there are other prominent ones including the ATF, DEA, US Marshalls, Secret Service, IRS, INS, Customs, etc and there are many more less known ones. Each has a different jurisdiction.

The NOAA enforces, for example, a number of laws and treaties relating to fishing (i.e. they will board vessels suspected of illegal fishing). The SSA in in charge of investigations regarding Social Security fraud.

How many Farkers would support me in a run against Inhofe when that time comes?

Ha ha. Some copy pasta.

I see only two possible scenarios: 1) They want to get all the ammo off the market so it's not available for American citizens to purchase. or 2) They plan on using the ammo against us in the future.

Scares the poop out of me. I have seen what a 40mm round can do. Monster! I really do not fully understand the concept. PLUS HOLLOW POINTS!. My SKS can do plenty of damage with the 7.62 X .39 rounds. This is insane. I will look further into this.

The Deutschland-class pocket battleship used a 283mm/52-cal naval gun. An early plan for the H-39 battleship design made use of a 40.6cm gun (similar in shell size to the North Carolina- and South Dakota-class battleships were fitted with.

/sorry, got a case of Nazi Turrets Syndrome

mrlewish: Do they know that 40,000 rounds is about what a small platoon carries for the short term?

Since most of these guys have never been in the military I'd say no.

Not surprised NOAA doesn't need more, I bet you anything the bullets are going to be primarily used for target practice. Wildlife smugglers don't usually engage in shootouts with the authorities.

SharkTrager: Lumpmoose: Lucky LaRue: "in Rand Paul's mind, the National Weather Service has ordered 46,000 hollow-point bullets....

That doesn't explain hollowpoints though. It bothers me our law enforcement uses bullets our military is barred from using.

The military isn't barred from using hollowpoints. The Hague convention banned soft-tip and other expanding bullets in 1899, but the U.S. has never signed on. The Geneva convention banned ammunition that would cause unnecessary suffering, but U.S. military lawyers have concluded that expanding ammunition in precision sniper weapons is OK.

If you'd read the thread you'd know that NOAA has a law-enforcement branch that's geared toward making sure fishstocks aren't over fished and and people don't try to smuggle in 40 tons of banned coral and liverock into the country.

The third largest black market in the world is the illegal wildlife market, NOAA is one of the agencies in charge of investigating it. They also handle violations of the Clean Water Act (ie, people dumping tons of dirt and rock into salmon streams), and probably a bunch of stuff I don't know about. 40,000 rounds every three to four years to enforce the law all over the US, as well in national and international waters isn't very much when you think about it.

Actually that's outdated thinking. For about the last 15 years, there have been studies showing that most violent intruders under 30 years of age find the sound of a round being chambered sexually arousing, with the physical effects of the arousal being equivalent to a PCP high, so watch your ass.

From TPN comments...

This is all spelled out in the now famous ObamaCare bill/law. It will bypass the military and local police. It will be a toally separate and independent armed force, answerable only to the potus. They are expecting general rioting if Obama is beaten at the polls. Even if he isn't (or, maybe especially if he loses) there could still be riots. He has so polarized the people that we are now almost at each others throats. He must be so proud of this, his highest achievement. Are we capable of preventing this complete destruction of our nation? I hope so. Looking at Greece, Libya and Egypt, however, I don't see much to be optimistic about. This man from nowhere is about to achieve the unthinkable. The only consolation I have is that his kind always manages to get what he deserves. In the end. But, maybe not for a long time. I mean, look at Fidel Castro. We should ALL have listened to Glenn Beck, when he told us to stock up at least 2 years (?) of supplies. It may be a long Winter.

This is what "conservatives" actually believe. At least back before Reagan they tried to sound sane and intelligent. Now they're all doing their best to out-derp each other, and reinforcing their own paranoid fantasies against each other. It's like they've all been smoking Jimson Weed and mainlining methamphetamine.

That's what happens when you hang out on the corner of Crazy and Paranoid.
