CNN : USA Today
Fox News : The Sun

/if it weren't for hotel subscriptions, how well would USA Today be doing?

Madbassist1: mark12A: Fark rage at Fox news amuses me no end. Such horror over news that most people can relate to in their real lives, instead of the leftist drivel served up my the MSM.

Fox news IS the mainstream media you farking tool. God I hate it when idiots act like FOX ISN'T the most watched news network in the farking world...

Most watched news network in the US maybe. However the vast VAST majority get their news from CBS, NBC, ABC. If real networks got the average audience that Fox News got, they'd shut their news programs down yesterday.

Fox News reach is horrifically overreported. There are 300 million people in this country. I don't care what 2 million people that are going to die soon think.

CNN is really a sad shadow of its former self. The only thing I really watch there anymore is GPS with Fareed Zakaria. In my opinion, they need to do what nobody else is doing, which is to be a credible, (relatively) unbiased, investigative, national news channel.

They should sell it back to Ted Turner and let him come in like an onion-belt-wearing Steve Jobs of the News and revitalize things.

Their solution is easy.

Wait and watch Jon Stewart's analysis team, and every time one of them leaves the Daily Show, hire them; Stewart's pulling 1.7 million viewers most weeks and it's not because he's writing his own jokes.

Unlike CNN, the Daily Show is actually a critical news source - they look at the stories and say "what's wrong with this picture" and then report it. With a comical twist, true, but that's just one extra step.

This just in: CNN is garbage, Piers Morgan a tool, and his show a complete failure.

There may very well be a potential TV audience/market for hard news done well, with competent, fair analysis without histrionics or staged drama, coverage that's broad in scope both nationally and internationally, as well as with in-depth coverage of the most important issues of the day with thoughtful, reasoned debate.

They sure as hell wouldn't be watching CNN, though.
