I'm shocked, shocked that both an overperforming player and an underperforming player regressed towards the mean, given a larger sample size.

Did anyone think Josh Hamilton would hit .404 all season? Did anyone think that Ryan Zimmerman would hit .222 all season? Is Stephen Strasburg really a .357/.438/.607 hitter?

In other news, once Werth and Desmond get healthy again, that's enough of a lineup to make a serious postseason run, given all the pitching they have.

In other other news, Henry Rodriguez led the NL in wild pitches in 2011, and he's tied for the NL this year with 10... in 26 innings of work. Maybe now that Storen is back the Nationals can safely demote him.

Not only that, but the next person Hamilton kills will be with a thrown bat. I can't believe how often he sends one into the stands. I know he wants a loose grip to whip the bat around, but c'mon, use a leash and a surfer's ankle strap or something.

You can see he's overthrowing the ball. When he takes just a bit off it, he's very accurate. When he goes all in on the heater, there's no clue where it's going.

its a long season. just like that, Pujols is putting up Pujols-like numbers again, Zimmerman is back, A Soriano is back. All of a sudden, the usual names are back to the top of the stat lists.

Honestly, I'm not sure how to answer that. I like the buzz about maybe getting Cliff Lee back. I don't know what it would take to make that happen, though. I know this sounds crazy, but I completely trust the front office for the Rangers. I'm generally satisfied with their decisions.

I was told it was a foregone conclusion that Hamilton was going to hit .400. Kind of like how Ubaldo Jiminez was going to win 30 games a few years ago.

The Rangers would be crazy to let go of Profar. However, Olt and another top prospect (plus maybe a lower-tier one) would probably be the price for Lee, as the Phillies need a 3rd baseman far more than any other position player right now and in the future. Having said that, even with the amount of money tied up in pitching right now, I don't know how willing RAJ is to trade Lee away. (Especially given that Halladay is probably gone after next year.) The Hamels deal does make it more of an option, though.

Olt certainly makes the most sense for the Rangers, since they're pretty well set at 3B, and it's certainly been reported that they've offered him up.

No takers yet, though, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

One interesting guy here is Anthony Rendon. He's the most highly-regarded prospect in the Nationals farm system now that Harper is up, but he plays 3B. You can make the argument that the Nationals have the best 3B in baseball in terms of present/future ability, maybe excluding Longoria. Zimmerman is 27 and provides solid offense and defense.

At 3B, the Phillies have... a bunch of homeless people. They're not going anywhere this year. What "right now" players would they (or someone else... not like there's an excess of great 3B right now) give up for a guy like Rendon, even if it's to a division rival?

Yep, I'm thinking he will probably only have on OBP around 400, but lots of triples to boost his slugging % up around 1.600. I mean he is already at 1.425 OBP...sky is the limit right!

Zimmerman most certainly did NOT murder anyone. He's been standing his ground and swinging his bat because people keep throwing stuff at him.

I seriously couldn't answer that. With the possible exception of Victorino, as the Nats have needed a true centerfielder since forever, I really don't if there are any Phils' players that they would be interested in enough to even think about a deal. And even at centerfield, at some point, Werth is coming back, and Harper isn't going to be sent back down, so they'll have enough outfielders already, and can probably get away with a platoon system. And Victorino himself isn't worth Rendon, and the Phils' farm system is not exactly at full capacity right now. Unless they'd want Blanton to help sure up the back-end of the rotation once Strasburg gets shelved.

While I love Gio, I was very disappointed that we gave up Milone in the package. Milone is a pitcher, not a thrower, we got a great pitcher for sure in Gio but Milone should have stayed. Milone is the type of pitcher if you set up 10 candles 60t feet away and lit them, he could put the candles out without hitting the actual candles. His accuracy is outstanding. Now Gio is better, but we should have tried to give them a few other minor leaguers other than Milone. I just loved watching him pitch. The other guys we gave up for Gio aren't going to be in the bigs. And for all the farkers who've been making fun of the Nats over the years (deserved, I admit), HAHAHAHAHAHA. Baby, this team is the real deal. Deep bench, lots of talent and HUGE heart. You can see that the players genuinely like each other and Johnson is manager of the year for helping to create that all for one, one for all attitude. And Bryce Harper is amazing. FYI, Bernadina is playing permanently now and Werth is going to have a hard time unless he finds his eye quickly.
