You'd think a country with strict laws controlling how many kids you can have would be all about the homo lovin'.

Well, when you can only have one kid, and you're lucky enough its a boy....

That's one problem: because of this unfair, counterproductive and silly cultural bias there already aren't enough females to go around for the heterosexual males. It won't surprise me if Chinese straight guys start having Death Matches to eliminate some competition.

Imagine how disappointing it is if he's gay?

That's another unfair, counterproductive and silly cultural bias.

I'm not being ignorant or culturally biased, I just returned home from a 2 year stay in China last week. I have homosexual Chinese friends who have been told essentially what I just posted. These same students stay over the summer break at their Universities because their parents won't allow them to return home after they have come out. One friend of mine was even attacked by his father with a knife when he caught him posting on a gay messageboard on the internet.

Even for foreigners in China, homosexuality is still VERY taboo. To the point when I started working over there, my boss advised me that if I was gay I should refrain from telling my students or displaying it publicly when I'm outside the campus. Luckily the "foreign bars" aren't frequented by traditional/conservative Chinese people which allows GLBTQ Chinese to express themselves freely.

The best thing the PRC could do to stem the anti-homosexual sentiment would be to adopt the Taiwanese model for population control, free and easy access to birth control pills and condoms. There is no "One Child policy" in Taiwan but most families only have one child. And hey, guess what, Taiwan is much more liberal when it comes to homosexuality. Go figure.

Burn the Chinese dictionary we'd have a gay ban trifecta in play after Chick-Fil-A and Masterpiece Cakeshop.

So, China removed homosexuality from their version of the DSM-IV only 11 years ago, huh? That puts them about 30 years behind the US.

/and we're about 30 years behind most of Europe
