I'd recommend dumping her into a volcano, but that level of derp might just leak down into the Mantle and DERP-poison the planet for millennia to come.

"No one thinks it's going to be easy,"

Well, considering that man hasn't found a cure for any virus based disease yet that I know of, yeah. It will not be easy.

DRACO may interest you, depending on your definition of "cure". It'll shut down a rhinovirus right quick.

Interesting, but will it cut into sales of other drugs that treat symptoms?

I wonder what it does to the plethora of beneficial bacteria in humans. IIRC gut bacteria are kept in check by their own strains of viruses.

Not to be a dick but....I can't help but wonder if our resources would be better spent on diseases that are not trivially prevented.

Damn her whore mouth spreading AIDS all up in the air.

How exactly is it trivially prevented?

HIV/AIDS doesn't scare me. You can prevent it with a condom. They need to find a cure for hpv and herpes, you can't prevent that except via abstinence, and that's no fun. :(

Now that I've hit that magic age, I think all research funds should be diverted to arthritis.

You realize HIV can also be transmitted in many other ways right? Unless you plan to put a condom over every syringe used for a blood transfusion, in which case, whoa dude.

First and second world countries test for that shiat, ya know. 98% of that mess is transferred through poor or nonexistant condom use.

FTFA: But already, the National Institutes of Health has increased spending on cure-related research, about $56 million last year, according to a report in this week's issue of the journal Nature.

Only $56 million? Doesn't that seem incredibly low to anybody else? That's something like 0.0015% of the federal budget. There are hedge fund managers that could finance the entire nation's AIDS cure research and still be able to afford a house for every season. :-/

The NIH spends 3090 million on research every year, only 56 of which goes to finding an AIDS cure? That's less than 2%. I would have expected at least 5% for something as serious as AIDS.

No, nonmedical (aka drug) needles and unprotected sex probably make up 95%

Not quite the same but I see where you're going.

What's going to happen, if anything, would be that we might be able to stop people from getting it to begin with or we might be able to stop the people who have it from developing AIDS, because HIV in and of itself is not really an issue.

But the idea that we're going to have somebody who has AIDS or HIV, give them something, and then they don't have it anymore? That's.. most likely never going to happen in our life.

Unless you receive a contaminated blood transfusion (more rare now than it once was, but still possible), you are treated in an impoverished area that reuses needles and yours wasn't sterilized properly, you are under age five - a window that allows for lateral transmission via saliva, your mother had HIV/AIDS, you got drunk and consented to have some redneck give you a "tattoo" in his kitchen for a $20 bill and the rest of your PBR, your saintly, angelic spouse cheats on you and acquires the disease. Other than these minor things, HIV/AIDS is completely preventable. It is an absolute waste of time to research it or look for an answer to the scourge that is HIV/AIDS.

And there are never any accidents, never any mix-ups, never any unethical business practices by companies that profit off blood. Link

"In April 2006, the cost of the F-22 was assessed by the Government Accountability Office to be $361 million per aircraft"

Yes, it seems low to me.
