Third_Uncle_Eno: Also, Phil Collins solo era could be divided into three groups of songs: bitter, dark ballads: "In the air tonight", " "I don't care anymore", "do you know, do you care", "take me home", (and downright creepy: "thru these walls"), syrupy ballads: "one more night", "if leaving me is easy", "we said hello goodbye", and cheesy pop: "susudio", "you can't hurry love", etc.

plus all the ones that are uncategorizable: "droned", "hand in hand", "long long way to go"

ThatGuyGreg: The real question here is why in the blue fark are you people still listening to FM radio?

Because when you go under a bridge it doesn't "fuzz out" the way AM does. No static at all.

Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi

For the love of God stop playing this song. It's not even their song.

Ok, I only read the first 50 comments but where is Blind Melon's No Rain?

Not really overplayed, but that entire first album was incredible, and I just found out tonight that Shannon Hoon was alive for a second album. So now I have to find Soup.

wiseolddude: You can't overplay Ironman.

True that. "Overplay" suggests the initial playing was welcome in the first place.

I don't know what radio station the author listens to but we get more than enough Pink Floyd, U2, R.E.M. and Elton John around here. And to say Black Sabbath has "remained relevant without ever leaving it's early 70's radio friendly fare". What does that even mean? And if you're going to bring up Black Sabbath, why not mention Deep Purple, or Led Zeppelin, or Metallica. I'm sure you could make all of those bands fit this ill-conceived and poorly executed sketch of an idea of an article.

I know that music threads sometimes devolve into animosity, when people with good taste in music debate the subtle distinctions between various bands and various styles. Ultimately, there is no way to resolve those debates, because good music will always appeal to people for different reasons. We may never be able to decide which band is "the best ever," but I think that we can at least all agree that every song by Radiohead sucks the corn kernels out of a dead donkey's ass and all of their fans are inbred simpletons with too many chromosomes who should be boiled down and converted to bio-diesel because they will never, ever contribute anything of value to humanity.

I mean at least we can all agree that this much should be uncontroversial.

Boc: No radiohead creep? Had to say it meh.

Well, be fair, you can't really single out one specific Radiohead song that is over-played, because all Radiohead songs are over-played, even if they are only played once.

Someone could run a continual loop of the opening riff to Iron Man on a station 24/7 and I'd have no problem with that.

Writer sounds like another effete music snob who is still pissy that no one gave a shiat about The Smiths...or some other band critics loved and only effete music snobs heard their music

Although David Lee Roth was rock musics version of pancreatic cancer...he was right when he called out critics "they like Elvis Costello's music because he is as ugly as they are"

Di Atribe: What the hell kind of radio stations does this author listen to?

That's what I can't figure out. His radio station of choice plays one Pink Floyd song? One Elton John song? One U2 song. That's extremely improbable. My guess is he either listens on some mobile device, thinks he is tuning in to a radio station, but is actually playing the same playlist over and over again. Or he listens in the car and thinks he is tuning in to a radio station, but there's actually a mixed CD he burned in 1998 stuck in the CD player.
