It seems to me that they are duffers BECAUSE they are playing golf... Whoever wrote that article needs a kick in the pants.

Main Entry: duf·fer
Pronunciation: 'd&-f&r
Function: noun
Etymology: perhaps from duff, n., something worthless
Date: 1756
1 a : a peddler especially of cheap flashy articles b : something counterfeit or worthless
2 : an incompetent, ineffectual, or clumsy person; especially : a mediocre golfer
3 Australian : a cattle rustler

Well, there are valid theories that the Dutch invented Golf. In 'Friesland' one of the most northern provinces they played 'KOLF' quite a few centuries ago.

That definition is eerily reminiscient of all the salesmen I know Dahaka... and they all love golf too.
