(Denver Post)   There are certain precautions to take when transporting a can of gasoline. Strapping it into a baby seat isn't one of them. Leaving your baby on the seat next to it isn't either   (denverpost.com) divider line

Once you roll the windows up and the kid passes out, it's a nice quiet ride home.

Well, you can't take a chance of the gas can tipping over and spilling. You'd never get the smell out

/come to think of it, same with the kid

Governor Walker just won in Wisconsin.

Thank god common sense has prevailed...

Considering the price of gas these days, your damn well sure I'll buckle up the gas can and keep it safe, and the rug rat can fark off! Cheaper to make another baby anyways.

2012-06-05 10:22:44 PM
well, since no one else was wearing a seat belt, I think this problem will sort itself out, given enough time...

Mama's little baby loves petrol, petrol...

Given the danger of gasoline spilled in the car, strapping it into a carseat isn't a terrible choice.

Haha... I've done something similar.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway does not have gas pumps at the roadcourse. I ran out of VP Red and had to drive the truck back into town. Once I'd filled my five gallon race jug I'd realized I'd forgot to bring a tiedown to strap it in the bed of the pickup. So I threw it on the passenger seat and buckled it in place... No issues.

FTFA: The photo drew wide attention when it was posted on CDOT's Facebook page. "People were pretty outraged," Stegman said. "Besides not wearing seat belts, people were also angry about the gas can. Even if it was empty, people worried the boy was being exposed to toxic fumes."

I think I would be more concerned about the loose baby being catapulted from the back seat in the event of a emergency stop or a car accident. People ride in cars with gas cans all the time without being affected by the fumes. You're overthinking this, folks. (or maybe the author just made up the part about the toxic fume concern to embellish the story a bit)

I can't see the one in the photo clearly, but all the gas containers made now have vents you can close so they're airtight.

dropped off gas at mom's so i grabbed a random empty gas can from the garage. the attendant discovers a fine gash in the can as gas spills out. he's trying to juggle the nozzle and the can, then put the can leaning sideways. the farking trunk carpet reeks of gasoline. so stupid. stupid sexy lawnmower.

Why would put put the gas can on the seat? Put it on the frigging floor where there isn't enough room for it to tip over. And if there is enough room for it to tip over, have the fourteen-year-old hold it. Jesus.

2012-06-05 10:52:55 PM
Well, they are both full of toxic substances at least...just swapped places for a little while.

This is like one of those puzzles...

You have a baby, can of gas and a car. You need to get across a river with all 3 home without getting pulled over.

farking idiots, where the fark are the fumes going to come from?

Fume - a collection of suspended solids created by friction, burning, or grinding, similar to dust but airborne i.e. smoke.

Vapor- a gas-phase material that is created by volatilization or evaporation.

MSDS(PDF) for Gasoline, if you bother to read it, the ACGIH TWA is 300 ppm for an 8 hour period, 500 for a 15 minute period(STEL) If the windows were open, like in the picture, there was no way that kid was being exposed to any dangerous levels of vapors.

Of course the windows were open, they were smoking cigarettes. She doesn't want her clothing to smell like smoke you know..

What's the big fuss? She put a seat belt around the gas can didn't she? Honestly, how many miles to the gallon is the kid going to get her?

Dear poor persecuted conservative moron, there is a Walker Wins headline already. Stop wanking and whining that Fark doesn't have a completely conservative slant to anything and everything posted and that your needs are never met.

There are greenlit links about him winning on both the Main page & politics tab. Did you even bother to check the politics tab before whining about a "Walker wins" greenlit thread?
