So, how much does a fire truck cost these days?
2001-11-14 08:44:47 AM
From the article: "That covers the $350,000 cost of the truck..."
2001-11-14 08:46:17 AM

2001-11-14 09:35:54 AM
Now if they would just take all of the Red Cross executives and use them to make speedbumps on the parade route, the story would be complete.

Oh, Mr Happy: SHADUP
2001-11-14 09:47:13 AM

2001-11-14 09:48:42 AM
Bite me, Happy. I live in SC, so I've been hearing about this a LOT, but you can't quash free discussion. They'll discuss it as long as they wish.
2001-11-14 09:50:10 AM
how'd they get the money?
2001-11-14 09:50:39 AM
Oh yeah sorry........... *photoshop*

2001-11-14 10:17:08 AM
If Mr Happy stops the comments then Fb- will have already won.

2001-11-14 10:18:49 AM
Thanks , skater. Either I'm an idiot, or it is(was) too early. Maybe both, who knows?
2001-11-14 10:23:59 AM
This is what makes America great.
2001-11-14 10:32:04 AM
"how'd they get the money?"

One guy gave $100,000. Kids sold stuff, homemade pins and shiat. There were lots of stories of kids givng up birthday gifts so they could donate that money. One kid talked his parents into canceling their Disneyworld vacation and donating the alloted $2000 to the cause.

Sniff...damn kids!
2001-11-14 10:58:45 AM
Perhaps humanity isn't doomed after all.
2001-11-14 11:02:08 AM
I wonder if the sirens play Dixie
2001-11-14 11:02:22 AM
But how did they "Lose" the first fire wagon back after the Civil war? (Or as we here in Atlanta like to call it, The War of Northern Aggression.)
2001-11-14 11:07:49 AM
I bet this gets made into a hallmark movie.
2001-11-14 11:08:58 AM
From what I hear, there was some kind of problem with shipping or something and it got broken, so the NY guys just sent another one.
2001-11-14 11:10:48 AM
They made it sound like they just kinda lost it on the way down to SC...
2001-11-14 11:15:09 AM
Nah. I've been reading about this in THE STATE (SC's main paper) for almost everyday since they first came up with this idea, and they've mentioned that something got broken in shipping. And when it comes to local news, I trust my local paper more than CNN.
2001-11-14 11:16:39 AM
Maybe France will repay us for WWII. Never Mind, ain't happening.
2001-11-14 11:16:53 AM
For what it's worth, this is a great story. Glad to see that the feeling of togetherness hasn't worn off.
2001-11-14 12:14:56 PM
South Carolinians...being...nice? I've been here for 18 years and havn't noticed it. When did this happen?
2001-11-14 12:28:16 PM
Last time I checked the Farkistan constitution, I didn't see Mr Happy appointed to "Post Police". In fact, I see a reference that no such position exists, and is, in fact, illegal.
2001-11-14 01:09:26 PM
gg kindness
2001-11-14 02:19:07 PM
God bless the South. I spent four years down there and man, those peopel sure are nice...
2001-11-14 02:31:44 PM
The original wagon got "lost" while coming down I-95 in Jersey. Who'da thunk it?
2001-11-14 02:35:45 PM
For our next act of generosity, Americans from every state, religion, creed, and political party will chip up to buy Fb- a personality.
2001-11-14 03:23:17 PM
This article brightened my laid-off day

Mr Happy:

2001-11-14 05:10:46 PM
Just shows what can be accomplished when kids get together to sell drugs for a higher purpose. Bravo!
2001-11-14 06:33:36 PM
I didn't know they had UPS back then. Who else could lose a fire wagon (or break it) in shipping?
2001-11-14 07:29:08 PM
That's a REALLY friggin' nice engine they're buying for FDNY, too. Many departments pay about $160k for an engine and another $20-$40k for equipment. They must be buying a ladder truck for it to cost $350k. What a great gesture.
