FTA...Curtis said she tries not to express her own nerdiness on her children. "They're going to be odd enough, being my kids!"

Okay, Drew...which of you is nerdier? You or your wife?

Actually, now that I put them together with the last name, Drew's kids sound like celebrities.

Hi, this is Storm Curtis for Action News.

Chance Curtis stars in X-Men: The Messiah Complex

Makes more sense now.

What's next, Drew? Strike? Random? Waterspout? Cloud? Entropy?

There are literally hundreds of meteorological / statistical words to choose from to ruin your kids' lives!

I have... issues with attachment parenting and the idea of women being mothers above all else once they've had children. This might not be the thread to express that though.

2012-05-11 06:31:38 PM
Okay... as a scientist, I'm calling BS on this: "Bialik's studies in developmental neuroscience and the endocrinology of attachment behavior in humans made it especially obvious to her that biology and science were not meeting the needs of psychology. It was intuition that led her to natural childbirth and attachment parenting."

Either the article's author is awful, or there's some seriously sketchy critical thinking going on here.

Mrs. Curtis come across as quite sane and thoughtful, though! I'd rather read HER book. ;)

It's amazing that any children survived to become normal adults in the past. Yawn! Another in a long list of trendy parenting memes by people with too much information and not enough common sense. All these trends come and go but somehow kids always manage to get over the parenting techniques.

Contrabulous Flabtraption: Can anyone explain WTF that article was about?

Some mothers choose to raise their children in ways different that others. Some of their practices seem strange but the believe it best for their children. Their ideas range from things like extended breastfeeding and co-sleeping to more controversial fair like being anti-vaccination and shunning tinfoil.

2012-05-11 06:35:06 PM
Drew and his wife sound pretty sensible about it in the article. Though I would respond to this Rogers lady's attitude of why not breast feed for an extended period of time (does she mean like the 3 year old from the cover of Time) with... WHY? No, not why not, WHY? Why would you want to breast feed a 3 yr old?

Bialik, unfortunately, is apparently an anti-vaxxer nut, so she's a moron.

2012-05-11 06:35:30 PM
Could be worse. Could have named one kid Yufiah.

Either the article's author is awful, or there's some seriously sketchy critical thinking going on here.

It's the 2nd one. She's essentially saying "my woman's intuition is better than all that sciency stuff".

Stile4aly
shunning tinfoil.

As anti-vaccination morons, I'm surprised they're not wearing tinfoil hats.

It's about garnering as many clicks as possible using the search term of the moment, "attachment parenting," and the classic "nerdy women."

AdolfOliverPanties: Storm and Chance?

Obviously, their names were changed to protect their identities.

2012-05-11 06:42:11 PM
Is there any benefit to continued breast feeding? Given Bialik's obvious intelligence I am willing to be that she did research, and quite frankly I do not want to read her book (as I have no plans on every reproducing (You are very welcome, world!)) but I am curious as to the benefits to the child of continued breast feeding after the recommended cut-off point. So, does anyone know anything about this and have any scientific evidence to support the claims of those who support attachment parenting?

I got this mental image of Drew getting his head stuck in a computer cabinet and running into things around the house while his wife was being interviewed.
