Aarontology: Wait, that's actually a job? This guy actually collects a paycheck for this?

No. He's just a vocal coach.
FWIW, I kinda hear it. It's the little inflection he puts on "pink." I don't think he meant it to be offensive, just another example of Romney being incredibly awkward whenever he tries humor.

He was clearly mocking gays with both the content of the comment and the way he delivered it.

But it should come as a surprise to no one that a Mormon hates gays.

Few gays are going to vote for Romney. I have to wonder about the mental condition of those who will.

cryinoutloud: If everybody wasn't being sooo PC, you'd just admit that gays have a certain way of talking. It's just like denying that there's a certain way black people talk. You know it's true.

NO. Just no. 95% of gays you would not know they are gay. Maybe 5% have that lisp or effeminacy thing.
/African-American linguistics is a whole other conversation. People get their accents from their peer groups of their youth, and blacks are no exceptions.

I don't think the point is that Romney is secretly gay. It's that he was engaging in gay stereotyping.

TheXerox: Foxxinnia: I've always wondered why there seems to be a "gay voice." Same with how there seems to be a "black voice." Some black guys seem to have this sort of "black voice" while other black guys have a "white voice." Sometimes people try to make it out to be some class thing or like someone's just trying to put on airs with white voice or some shiat, but I just figure that the black guys with the "whiter" voice they grew up around white kids or something. But that's not how the gay voice works. Gay guys just have it for some reason. It's not something they just pick up because they have the "gay voice" before they seem to know they're gay sometimes.

Is a person's voice cultural or genetic? I really don't know.

I've noticed similar things. Had a co-worker who was gay and had a distinct gay voice when in the office. Saw him talking to a clerk at the hardware store once about buying some fertilizer and had a totally straight voice as he was chatting with the clerk while loading the fertilizer into his truck. Flipped on his gay voice like a switch when he said hello to me and then went right back to talking in a straight voice to the clerk. Never got around to asking him about it before he left for another job.

A lot of people will subconsciously switch accents depending on the setting without even realizing that they're doing it.

Don't Troll Me Bro!: For any of you Madison farkers. You should check out the East side Laredo's Mexican Restaurant. Probably 2/3 of the men working there sound completely flaming gay, but speak broken English. I think the restaurant has one English coach that teaches them all ESL, and maybe he sounds really gay. That's just speculation, but it's all I can think of unless gay men who can barely speak English just pick up that dialect naturally. I must give credit, if that's the case, those guys working there are very good students to pick up on that and emulate it.

It's mocking an effeminate man. I do the same thing. I'm not making fun of it because you're gay. I'm making fun of your voice.
