I seem to not be able to log into Farktography forums. Is it only me having the problem that when I log in from my phone (Safari) or computer (Firefox) I am routed to a new page with this message:

Are you logging in from the main page or from within the forums?  IIRC, one of those works while the other doesn't.

Congrats to CompoundWarp on the "My Neck of the Woods" win this week!

Also, FYI for llevrok: I hadn't caught it until this morning, but somehow you ended up with 5 envotinated entries.  The maximum for Farktography is 3 unless otherwise specified.

Have you been able to log in yet?  The main page login on the upper left is the one you should use, not the link from the top of the forums page.

It isn't down for me, and it doesn't appear to be simply cached, so that sounds like your IT dept may have blocked it (which would suck if true :(  )

A question for D200 owners.
Is anyone else having problems with "soft" images? Doesn't matter what in camera settings I use or what lens, the images just seem like they aren't as sharp as they were with my D100. I know it's an old camera at this point but did anyone else have this problem?
Elsinore if this is the wrong place for this type of post, feel free to bust out the eraser.
Thanks folks!

Oooo nice.  I have my Dad's 1981 AE-1P that I occasionally run film through.  Do you do any b/w processing of your own?  that's not too difficult to learn and set up if you don't.

Not sure if this has been covered yet, and on mobile, going through 700 comments to find out is a no-go.

Can someone tell me f there is a delay in posting photos once submitted? I just posted three (from my phone) and they are not showing up. The first one I submitted twice because I thought I did something wrong the first time (sorry, mods!). Thanks for any help :)

Welcome to Farktography!  One question, however--are your photos Instagram/filtered?  Because typically those aren't allowed for Farktography as they are too modified to fit what we allow.  If it's simply adding a small plain border, that's ok, but adding vintage filters, heavy vignetting, film-effects and whatnot generally isn't.   Your first entry looks like it might fall more into that category than the other two, but let me know if you need clarification!

I did use instagram, and I wondered about that...but the rules made it appear that the filters would be okay.  Thanks for the clarification.  This is my first foray into the challenge.  My original photos without any editing are decent so next time I'll just go with that.

Don't worry about it this time.  The voting could be disabled on the first one, which looks more obviously like it's filtered, but we understand it can be hard for new folks to know where the lines and gray areas are.  In general, we like to say we'd rather see what you can do with your camera rather than your post-processing/software.  You clearly have a good eye, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you bring in the coming contests!  Welcome again :)

Yep, something changed when they moved me to a new server a couple of days ago.  Fortunately, a simple config file change fixed both sites, so we're up and running again.

Elsinore - FYI, there are some Scarlet R's this week.  Since URLs aren't converted to cached versions until contest close, the Scarlet R checker will still work for reposts of entries prior to the whole caching implementation.

Ah ok, I just asked about that on farktography.net.  So stuff posted after the cache change will not be caught because the scraper updates the addy during the contest?

I apologize for not getting my usual thread closing post submitted to this week's Farktography theme, "Waterscapes 2".  This was Zeke's and my anniversary weekend, and our outing yesterday ended up taking much longer than I figured it would!

But I'd still like to extend a warm welcome to our Farktography First Timers: DCLS3, I Ate Shergar, pnkgtr, Tumbleweed_TX, and Zeppelinster, as well as a warm welcome back to folks we hadn't seen in awhile: dakwegmo, dstanley, Fiction Fan, inelegy, Warthog, and wildcardjack--hope to see all of you back next week for "Signs 2"!

I was a composer, mostly for theatre, for a few years, and got an NEA grant to write a specialized piece for one of her husband's one-act plays. We all spent a week together at a conference in Valdez, AK, putting it together for performance.

Sweet!  A lot of people think my handle either came from Lake Elsinore in California or from the movie Strange Brew.  While I love Strange Brew (and I do have an Elsinore Beer shirt, because obvious reasons), the name seriously did come from Hamlet's Castle.  I always liked the sound of it.  Of course, in Danish, it's "Helsingør" .

I immediately thought of Hamlet, cuz my wife who works at a Shakespearean theatre and would smack in the back of head if I didn't, and cuz this plaque was literally on the side of a castle, and has an entry here. We were just looking for parking for the Queen City Sausage Festival going on down there.

In the process of taking photos today. Security guards at a local college told me I to stop taking photos of the buildings as they were on private property and I was photographing the security systems. I was and I made that point, but it fell on ignorant ears. My only regret is that I was a little rude to the two of them. I've seen many videos of people having this kind of interaction and the person being confronted keeps a level head and is respectful. I didn't totally succeed in that regard. I'm sure there will be a next time, unfortunately, hope to do better then.

That's a fair point about being level headed, but on the other hand, security guards sometimes are woefully ignorant of actual law, which can certainly be frustrating.

Also: Somewhere out there is a "Photographer's Bill of Rights" that explains general rights to photograph in public, and it's in an easily-printable size that's useful to carry with you just in case of such confrontations.

I haven't found any that are easily printable, but there was one place that sells a gray card set with photographer's rights printed on one side and blank on the other. They offer the same info in plain text that you could format yourself, but I am not sure how legally sound the info is.

There is also this pdf that was provided by and stamped with a lawyers letterhead which might provide more confident source material on the matter, though he does of course have a disclaimer that this should not be construed as legal advice nor suggest that this info sets up any kind of relationship with him as counsel.
