I love the artistic sense and craftsmanship that used to be put into gadgets back in the day. Ornate affairs made from polished brass and varnished wood. When steampunk started getting semi-popular, I had hoped that we'd see a revival of the art. Unfortunately it quickly devolved into people gluing old watch parts onto the cases of stuff and calling it 'victorian', and people dressing up in ridiculous cosplay outfits with silly goggles.

Still, there are those who genuinely make something beautiful:
