jaytkay: Flint Ironstag: Probably earns more than a doctor, for a couple of decades anyway...

A UPS driver 3 years out of high school has earned $200K?

Nonsense graph is nonsense

You'd be suprised. That's probably a low-ball number as well.

During college I worked at UPS as a loader. We had amazing benefits, make good money for 4 hours a day - 5 days a week, and got bonuses and stuff. The drivers had to work there a minimum of 8 years to even be eligible for the position, but most had done loading for 10+ years. Those guys got all the benefits of being in the union but also got about $70,000 - 80,000 a year.

It's shiat work and the turnover rate was insane. So anyone willing to work there for a decade was pretty much set.

I left the union and went management. I had this old guy who showed up to lug boxes ever day, and was never late. He was probably in his late 50's early 60's. Well, on day a truck backed upa nd forgot to honk his horn and ended up hitting the old man and knocking him down. It wasn't anything bad, but the top brass wanted me to personally drive him home.

Anyway, I'm driving him home and we keep getting farther and farther into the rich area of the city. Eventually he tells me to pull into this huge mansion. We get out and he invited me inside. I thought maybe it was his rich kid's place, but no, it was his. We sit down with a couple drinks and he tells me he made millions in property and real-estate. He was only working at UPS because he was bored with retirement and needed something to do!

I would pick his brain at work and after work and made friends with him. One day he tells me I need to get an education and gave me a huge loan (interest free) to go to college. You never know the people you'll meet.

/Went to his funeral a couple years ago. His wife said I was probably one of the best friends he had his last few years. I'll always miss Frank. The man was a genius.

xl5150: Bathia_Mapes: In the US. some street sweeper operators work for the municipal government.

WOW! What an accomplishment! I stand corrected. Working for the municipal government? How impressive! Maybe if they stick with it they can work their way all the way up to dogcatcher! Hell, if they keep their nose clean, meter maid might not be out of the question after 10 or 15 years, right?

Bathia_Mapes: Most positions require a special license and training.

Ooooh, impressive. Special license AND training? Do you think the "Special License" they need is almost as hard to get as a forklift license, which, (apparently) according to your standards is another highly prestigious job? And as far as "special training," here's another job that also requires special training.

You sound like a spoiled trust fund brat that has never had to work a day in their life.

RTFA. He turned all the watches he found over to the police.

Holy crap Bathia_Mapes is an admin now. Congrats, ma'am.

Thanks, sweetie. :-)
