Overpriced lumber and trash. Does Canada make anything else?
2001-11-09 10:54:06 AM
As long as the trash drives back to canada everyday.

From my experience playing Sim City 2000 I can assure you that accepting other cities trash is an excellent source of income.
2001-11-09 11:12:55 AM
Go buy your lumber somewhere else then.
2001-11-09 11:22:02 AM
Hey Canada, dig another farking hole to put your trash in...duh? Or burn the shiat like most developed nations.
2001-11-09 11:24:07 AM
Styx isn't a Canadian Band they're from Chicago.
As for the trash, I'm sure it will give those kids in northern Michigan a good source of income, rooting through Canadian trash so that they can make a couple of bucks returning empty beer cans and plastic bottles to recycling plants, you know, like they way the kids do in the the slums of Manila.
2001-11-09 11:25:14 AM
We send them acid rain and MacDonalds, they send us cold fronts and trash. Seems fair to me.
2001-11-09 11:40:56 AM
Good point Quirk, I wonder what Montana has to offer as far as trash dumps...hmmmmm
2001-11-09 11:41:49 AM
C'mon, that's no way to talk about our future 51st state (all except Quebec, too high-maintenance).
2001-11-09 11:45:43 AM
As a former resident of Michigan, I can report that Candadian trash is preferable to native Michigan trash, like John Engler.
2001-11-09 11:49:46 AM
and Ted Nugent!
2001-11-09 11:54:51 AM
As a current resident of Michigan, I can report that any trash, including human waste, is preferable to our lying sack of shiat former Governor Jim Blanchard.
2001-11-09 11:55:44 AM
For the record, there's a couple things we sell besides lumber:
We provide you with 10% of your crude oil.
(more than Saudi Arabia), 3.5 Trillion cubic feet of Natural Gas, and around 42.9 bkwh of hydroelectricity to New England and New York. In addition, we also supply you guys with coal and uranium. And... We gave you Tommy Chong. So you're welcome.

C'mon all you American Farkers.... it's not THAT bad. What's a little garbage between friends? So what if you get a few Quebecoise sneaking in with every truck load? They're pretty decent people; beer drinking Christians just like you.

Ok, that Mich. Governor and his staff are pretty stupid.

1. Why send a letter, asking Canadians to stop sending it? They aren't sending it for free - somebody in Michigan is getting paid to receive the trash. So, the smart thing to do is to either (a) ask the receiver to stop receiving, or (b) pass a law or sign an executive order to forbid receiving trash. Furthermore, that "someone" in Michigan who is getting paid to receive the trash is probably the taxpayers of Michigan itself (if it isn't, it should be).

2. ""If you take out 180 trucks, whoknows how much shorter those lines would be," Engler spokesman Matt Resch said Thursday." UM, maybe about 180 trucks shorter?
2001-11-09 01:22:48 PM
you'll all be relieved to know we're only sending the good stuff.
"According to the contract, Toronto's garbage will include waste from hotels, restaurants, strip malls, nursing homes, residences and businesses, but not hospitals. Blood, medicines, body parts and other wastes deemed hazardous must be steamed or incinerated and disposed of separately. "

Here comes lunch.

The original plan was to ship to a northern ontario town that had an empty quarry (I forget the name of the town). There was a nasty legal battle if I remember. Many people in the town wanted the jobs that would come with the garbage, others didn't.
Toronto is disliked by many Canadians, who see them as too arrogant, regarding themselves as Canada's centre of culture and commerce.

As a resident of the Wolverine state (even though there are no wolverines here, mind you), I agree with the headline in soooo many ways. The only question that needs to be answered: why the hell did I move back?!?
2001-11-09 02:11:25 PM
Was the town called New Liskard?
Something like that I think.

I'm a canadian and love Toronto. Fantastic city.

Michigan's trash problem has nothing to do with Canada.

Hey, let's not forget about the biggest piece of trash we've ever exported to you Americans -- Pamela Anderson. You're welcome. (Though I'm sure that parts of her originated south of the 49th parallel...)
2001-11-09 02:47:56 PM
Don't get me wrong, Toronto is a great place to visit with a great nightlife, but I grow tired of the "Why don't you move away from that polluted industrial crappy city you live in and move to Toronto where all the cool people live?" sort of talk. I bet its often the same for people with friends in LA, NY and those kinds of cities.
2001-11-09 04:07:34 PM
I don't know if Canadian trash is worse than the poisonous sulfuric clouds and green river by the Rouge Plant in Detroit.
2001-11-09 04:55:58 PM
Hey, did anyone know that Oregon's nickname is "The Beaver State"?
2001-11-09 07:52:27 PM
Mmmmm.. Whoregon...
2001-11-09 08:55:53 PM
Dear Canada:

Please send us all of your garbage (or as we call it in the good ol' U$A, trash.) Hell, we'd pimp out or grandmothers if there was a buck in it, so please keep it coming.

Your Truly,

Amerika Inc.
2001-11-09 10:25:00 PM
why was michigan stupid enough to take the trash in the first place?
2001-11-09 10:31:29 PM
Eh, the Americans will probably elect that pile of garbage in 2004.
2001-11-10 04:10:47 PM
Umm...a few generations back my family migrated from Ontario to Michigan. 200 years before that they'd migrated from Germany to Ontario.

Screw you. I'm half Polish anyhow....

Although Canadian trash is superior to Michigan trash, and can be produced at a lower cost, Michigan insists on slapping punitive tariffs on Canadian trash, thereby abrogating FTA, NAFTA and the spirit of the as-yet unimplemented FTAA.
