Whoever can steal or appropriate one or more of those signs when the sale is over would make a fortune on ebay/whatever.

Could be the work of a disgruntled employee. Great prank.

There are a few words that are known worldwide (less some tribe in deepest New Guinea or something...).

farkin is one of them.

My American co-worker showed me this picture last week (someone had sent it to her mobile). She was amazed that they could make such a mistake, but like many of the posters here, I said it was very unlikely to be a mistake.
Mind you, having seen some very strange English here over the years, I can't be 100% sure.

Not as edgy as it used to be. Thanks potty mouths. Profanity is only fun when not everyone is doing it. Now that Rob Zombie and Sons of Anarchy are pop culture, you've farkin' ruined a good time.

I was a a WalMart picking up some camping supplies that I had forgotten one time and on a box of paper towels there was this label:

"Absorbant Paper Towels
espanol label here"

The company had forgotten to insert a Spanish translation and the placeholder was printed on the box.

When I was three my grandmother gave me a cassette recorder, and I soon figured out how to use it as a PA system. I had just learned this wonderful new word too...

So when I set up and started saying "crap... crap... crap..." at 100 decibels, dad just walked into the room and quietly said "stop that."

So I am a doubter, it has to be photoshoped. F*ck is known all over the world and no one caught it? Also, the tag line refers to a translation mixup. What word do YOU use in place of it to describe a sale? "love makin' sale," sexual intercourse sale," dipping the wick sale?"

Plus enough people in Japan speak English, that sign hanging up there would quickly raise a red flag...er, draw attention.

2 things you should know about Japanese culture;

1) Profanity isn't so much of a taboo in the sense that 'f*ck' 's*it' 'a$$' equivalents are all over television, dramas, etc with little sensor ship. Most of the weight is placed on how you say it rather than what you say.

2) Japanese have a long history of "borrowing" words from English (and other languages) and using them in whatever way they like, often distorting the original meaning, grammatical usage, or contextual appropriateness. In fact its so widespread in Tokyo that it has become rather blase.

So I'm quite sure this is on purpose.
