This quote brings tears to my eyes, beautiful... must go cry in corner now...

2001-11-07 10:31:14 AM
Yea, that'll get 'em

2001-11-07 10:35:17 AM
Baby-eating blood-libel is never funny.
2001-11-07 10:47:06 AM
My company has just added SomethingAwful and TheOnion to its firewall list. fark!

I tell you, if Fark gets banned there's gonna be tantrums..
2001-11-07 10:49:39 AM
Use www.surfola.com to get around firewall bans
2001-11-07 10:49:41 AM
HAHA shame Mungo!!
2001-11-07 10:50:19 AM
"I tell you, if Fark gets banned there's gonna be tantrums.."

Dude, I would quit
2001-11-07 10:53:43 AM
Surfola.com and pretty much all other proxies are out, too - there's been a management / slackers arms race for some time, and we're slowly losing... but we won't surrender!
2001-11-07 10:56:30 AM
Is L Ron the Baby Eating Bishop of Bathe and Whales?
2001-11-07 10:56:50 AM
Scientologists suck.

I'm rooting for Lowtax and Zack. Scientology is not a religion. You can't make up a religion. It's claiming to be one so that it can be "protected" while it does its stuff.
2001-11-07 11:09:22 AM
Scientology was started on a bet.
2001-11-07 11:09:53 AM
Oh hahah! That was the best SA ever.
2001-11-07 11:11:11 AM
Coporate Mofo, you actually CAN make up a religion. Every religion started out as something someone made up (albeit most claim to be visions from/the word of God/Allah/Yaweh/etc). Doesn't mean it's good or right or even real. I say we make a new religion: The Church of Farkology.
2001-11-07 11:11:15 AM
Mungo, I feel your pain.

www.amegaproxy.com works for me, while surfola does not. I just did a google search for free proxies and kept trying until I found one that wasn't blocked. I'm sure it works kind of like napster - as more and more are blocked, more and more new ones pop up.

stick it to the man
2001-11-07 11:12:46 AM
Farkologists would be the Theocratic rulers of Farkistan.
2001-11-07 11:14:21 AM
...and first my Weeners...
Scientologists will win this, unfortunately. They've got the money and the resources to drive any dissenters away. Damn people.
2001-11-07 11:15:39 AM
Walkentology is the way of Farkistan.
2001-11-07 11:16:14 AM
The new amusing tags make me limp.
2001-11-07 11:19:45 AM
"it's no secret that we think they're insane and dangerous morons who are like cash vampires for their lower members"

Doesn't this describe pretty much all organized religions? And while I'm at it, anyone care to guess the exponential number of lawyers that would innundate SA if they were to make such comments about Jews? Oh no! I used the word 'Jew'! Dammit! I'm a racist now!

Scientology sucks, religion sucks. I find it ironic how there's more evidence to prove the existence of UFO's than God, yet anyone who believes in UFO's to any extent is nuts, and those who believe in God are righteous?

Go get'em SA!
2001-11-07 11:22:57 AM
This is beginning to resemble one of those 3am drunken religion debates..
2001-11-07 11:27:32 AM
I wonder what the real issue between SA and scientology is... it can't be over a little picture, can it??
2001-11-07 11:28:48 AM
Yes I admit all religions suck, but Scientology right now is one of most dangerous.. We really gotta unite against these bastards... They have waaaaaaaaayyy too much power and money. If only Al Queda would kidnap John Travolta.....
2001-11-07 11:31:56 AM
OpusGuru: What if Travolta succeeded in converting bin Laden to Scientology?? Would we then not be in really deep shiat?
2001-11-07 11:34:05 AM
Oh no!!! It would be "The Experts 2 - Afghanistan"
2001-11-07 11:36:38 AM
Everytime I refresh my browser I get different tags!!!!!!!!!!
2001-11-07 11:37:08 AM
Gotta love the artwork from those guys at SA! Windows Paint kicks butt!
2001-11-07 11:37:30 AM
Mungo There is a way out...

but you got to keep this secret secret..

search on google for SQUID proxy...

note that all of these use a set port.. not 80 or 8080 and that most firewalls will be set only to filter that port.

get it? use another port.
2001-11-07 11:41:19 AM

Triangle boy should solve your firewall problems (www.safeweb.com).

Or if you cant reach that page, there is a link to a triangle boy proxy on my site www.abortive.net.

COUNTER-STRIKE PLAYER #1: "DUDE! Afghanistan is just like de_dust!"
COUNTER-STRIKE PLAYER #2: "Double-you tee eff?!? This AWP is a lot heavier than in the game! How the fark-zor am I supposed to jump around with this?!?"
COUNTER-STRIKE PLAYER #1: "DUDE! I'm going to run to the right over here." (Runs to the right) "Okay, now I'm just going to kind of walk around in circles and crouch randomly."
COUNTER-STRIKE PLAYER #2: "Hey, that Army guy said he was going to give me dual Desert Eagles, but my backpack is just full of sand! That fag!"
COUNTER-STRIKE PLAYER #1: (Running into wall) "What did you say? Something about lag?"
TALIBAN SOLDIER: (Shoots them to death) "kekekekekekekekeke, jajajajajaja!"
2001-11-07 11:47:39 AM
Would someone mind telling me what on earth Scientology is? Do they eat babies or something?
2001-11-07 11:51:29 AM
Lizrdgzrd Depending on your poitn of view, "real" religions are either (a) divinely inspired, or (b) the result of hundreds or thousands of years of cultural practices. They were not pulled out of the ass of a Grade-Z sci-fi writer.

Examples: Judaism may or may not be derived from tablets of stone given to Charlton Heston, but it's pretty established that we Jews and our particular religion and culture have been around for a few thousand years. Santaria is a religion, but has no "divine revelation"; however, it's pretty obviously a merging of African belief and Catholicism. Similarly, things like Unitarianism come from pretty standard Christian deistic beliefs that have a whole lineage going back to the eformation and before. Even the Universal Life Church comes from a line of theological argument that has a long history behind it.

Conversely, the Church of the Subgenius isn't a real religion, and everyone knows it.
2001-11-07 11:51:38 AM
Svetlanis, this is Scientology.
2001-11-07 11:53:26 AM
lmao@walkentology... ahh ha ha ha! Me laughy long time!

Theres this phenomenon thats been happening lately. I find a celebrity that I like for one reason or another, then I find out that they are a creepy scientologist, and then I just have to hate them! sucks not to have any role models.
2001-11-07 12:00:07 PM
Corporate Mofo - so the difference between a cult and a religion is how long it has been in existance?
2001-11-07 12:07:57 PM
I hope Something Awful kicks those moron's asses in court.
2001-11-07 12:08:21 PM
Meshman: Beautiful! Total agreement.

Corporate MoFo: Don't be so self-righteous about Judaism, simply because it has history. It has many cult-like aspects....as do most "organized religions".

I find it amusing that Greek Mythology is generally accepted as "mythical", when it was the dominant religious practice for a thousand or so years (remember that the Romans practiced it for awhile as well as the Greeks).

Will Christianity/Judaism be looked upon mythically in 1000 years? Probably.
2001-11-07 12:10:41 PM
Corporate MoFo: "You can't make up a religion."

Like hell you can't. Prove to me that anyone who created a faith was "divinely inspired", a term that by definition requires a faith in something unprovable. You can not.

All religions were made up. And all the inventors had agendas.
2001-11-07 12:14:19 PM
Thanks for the free proxy hints. I've been having trouble with Safeweb being real slow lately. I've been using the wrong search words to find others.

Thanks again.
2001-11-07 12:17:15 PM
No, the difference between a cult and a religion is that all cults are false, whereas the One True religion worships only ME. This is your holy book.

No, seriously, what I'm considering here is history and culture. Religion is part of a group's culture. It's not something you make up on your own. If you look at the "legit" divine revelations, they most often followed along lines laid down previously, and tried to prove their legitimacy along these lines. Example: Early Christians, such as Eusebius, tried to show they were following Judaism "more fully." Muslims venerate the old pagan holy places, and put Mohammad last in a line of prophets from Adam through Jesus. No new religion said, "Yeah, all that is BS."

Also, cults, it need not be said, try to control every aspect of their members' lives, hwereas religions trust them to be moral people out of their own motivation.
2001-11-07 12:24:45 PM
BTW, Beezelbubba, just because you can't "prove" divine revelation means that religions were "made up." It's not like some guy sat down and said, "Hmmmn, what would be a good opiate for the masses?" These things evolved over time, and there's a lot of truth in the collective unconscious. And it is possible to see through the BS of the everyday material world.
2001-11-07 12:27:50 PM
How is scientology any crazier than Christianity, or any religion for that matter. They are all Looney Cults.
2001-11-07 12:29:14 PM
Note to self: Close boldface tag next time.
2001-11-07 12:37:02 PM
By the way, rationalism isn't always as rational as you think it might be. Newton came up with the theory of gravity and calculus, but he was also ardently religious and believed in Revelations as the literal truth--he deeply regretted the loss of his huge commentary on that most trippy book of the New Testament in a fire.
