To me these people who are so wrapped up in posting the ten commandments everywhere are about a zillion light years from Christianity. They're not worshiping the God they believe handed these rules to Moses. Instead they are worshiping their egos, self-rightousness, arrogance, and bigotry; masquarading it as a statement of America's unified belief and foundation. As a Christian I believe God turns His back on these fundamentalists.

You know about 2000 years ago when the new testament was written, Jesus stated that Christians would be persecuted for their beliefs. And here it is 2000 years later, and he is still right.

God turns His back on no one

So there is no particular way of praying to god ? therefore religions that symbolizes ONE Almighty Supernatural Pheonomenon as the ultimate Creator are recognized as followers of the good?

Christians, Jews and Muslims are people of the Book.

Where's Tarvuz ?

1. Someone in the Supreme Court needs to pass down a judgement which unilaterally commands the removal of all religious icons from government propery and buildings. Why the fark should we have to wait until someone files a suit against each and every single one when we already know how the suit will go? WASTE OF TIME.

2. God turns His back on no one. Then what was all that turning people into salt and casting folks out of eden and sending anyone with a mind of his own to hell for all of eternity? Note: Not that I believe in some anthropomorphic God.

3. You know about 2000 years ago when the new testament was written, Jesus stated that Christians would be persecuted for their beliefs. And here it is 2000 years later, and he is still right. Yeshua is credited with saying almost as much stuff as Confucius. 90% of the things people these days say those two said was made up by someone else and credited them to try and give it some weight. Yeshua said that you should give me all your money too.

Allow me to just go ahead and post a few religious comments to head some people off at the pass.

Christianity is the one true path to salvation.
God is dead, get over it.
God never existed, you're all crazy.
Allah smash!
Menoh will kick all you monotheists butts one day...
Christians can fark themselves.
Atheists can fark themselves.
Polytheists, Mormons, Jews, Nazis, the Press and Ackbar can all fark themselves.

Does that about cover it?

Don't you people get it?! The 10 commandments must be displayed EVERYWHERE!! Our religion is the real one! All those others are fake and icky!

Why hold back and only display them in a church? They should be at every intersection and every school! They should be at the mall and on the highway! As a Christian, I want to see them EVERYWHERE because MY RELIGION IS THE CORRECT ONE. If you take them away, I will all of a sudden stop being Christian! I need them there to remind you all that I BELIEVE IN JESUS AND GOD and if you don't YOU ARE GOING TO HELL so ha ha ha!

Circular arguments prove nothing.
Of course the authors and dreamers that came up with Christianity said they'd be persecuted.

Good that you agree with Jesus on that.

When you come up with something so ludicrous and expect everyone to believe in it, you deserve to be shat on.

I think even Jesus would agree with that one, if you consider the "something" to be atheisism". Amen!

"Prior to his arrest, he would not have had any catalyst to cause him to file suit," said David Owen Tanner, Russelburg's attorney. "But now he's confronted with the Ten Commandments at the courthouse Oe this action is not designed to make him popular - if he wanted to gain the hearts and minds of the public he would have left well-enough alone."

Yes. Go with the flow. Don't make waves.

Obey.

Obey.

OBEY!

Addendum to the persecution thing: "Christians will be persecuted for their beliefs". That takes about as much divine foresight as "People will continue to breathe air for a long time to come".

Christians were persecuted from the moment they gave themselves a name to be called by.

ANYONE who believes in something will be persecuted for those beliefs. Jews have been persecuted, scientists have been persecuted, atheists have been persecuted, Satanists have been persecuted, Nazis have been persecuted.

I use my divine foresight to predict that for the next 2000 years, water will still be wet. You just wait and see.

I am Roman Catholic but I belive that no matter what your religion, keep it in your building of worship or in your home. In extenuating circumstances, if the religion has "last right rituals" it may be used in a medical facility.

Religions may seem all good and wonderful but along with quests for land, money and power they have been one of the biggest motivators for conflicts.

I say, let logic, and the quest for fair even justice and order guide decision making processes.

Religion is one thing, reality another, rarely do both easily mix.

Satan himself will give an Amen to that one.

Considerring the actions of the jeezoids, God either doesn't exist to put a screeching halt to such asshattery in his name, or he does exist but just plain doesn't care about the human race.

God would have done something about the horrors of the Holocaust, but he was too busy making sure his missionaries in Borneo were telling the savages not to fark.

It's not only unconstitutional to display the 10 commandments, but to me it seems un-Christian as it's sorta like worshipping a graven image.

See, I'm Catholic. And if you take away the ten commandments monument, that offends me. Why? Because you are not Catholic and you don't believe in what I believe so that makes me right.

My feelings are more important than yours. I need to validate my beliefs by displaying them in symbol form for all of you to see. But don't you DARE try and display your beliefs on ME. Your beliefs are wrong! For example, if you believe gay marriage is OK, don't try and legalize it. That would offend ME. And ME is all that matters.

I thought you all got this by now!

2003-09-06 05:21:34 PM
Not all Christians believed in making monuments and the pomp and circumstance some Christian cults/sects' clergies wanted to raise, particularly before they were dying to assimilate Rome. The Gnostic Christians and some others realized there's a difference between shouting something from the mountain and erecting monuments.

We have the internet, stop building these monuments and make a webpage or something. Of course, the Christians who didn't believe in all the evangelism and monument constructing were hunted down by the other Christians and killed off largely right after Rome was assimilated so it's not a mystery why the surviving Christian worshippers as a whole have a serious fetish with building structures today.

I'm probably wrong and am only remembering all this from a drug-induced dream I had one night in Guadalupe, but I still think that these monuments need to be taken down as too many religions / cults exist to give them all fair representation on a societal level. And yes, Christianity was considered a cult before it was made legal by Constantine with the Edict of Milan in 312.

God turns His back on no one.

Really? I guess it depends on how you look at it. For someone who is supposed to "protect" the flock, he sure does a terrible job sometimes. Maybe he's not turning his back on us... maybe he just dozed off for a few minutes back when I was nine years old as I watched the face of a 6 year old girl dissapear under heavy gunfire - and screamed as my grandmother fell bloody and lifeless into my lap.
Perhaps you're right. Maybe he, like everyone else, simply needs a snooze every once in a while.

All things considered, it should never have been put there in the first place. No religious artifac or endorsement should be placed on any government facilities land. I'd say the same thing if it were a buddist monument, or a muslum one, or a Taoist one. It needs to be removed, if only to preserve the aperence of fairness and un-biasness the courts must project.

Both statements will be true for as long as humans are around.

I disagree. Humans will eventually evolve beyond the need for "air". There is already research being done into a "breathable fluid" (ala The Abyss) for purposes of dealing with presure.
And as for persecuted Christians: They'll stop being persecuted eventually, just like nobody ever persecutes the Followers of Marduk anymore. At some point you just run out of followers to persecute. (picture my evil grin)

MegaDethHead
And ME is all that matters.
Nono. You're a Catholic: God is all that matters.
I claim the right to use "And ME is all that matters." as my religion recognizes me as my own god and therefore at the top of the worship chain.
Hail Me!

Hmm, interesting post, but may I point out that to my knowledge, Homosexual marriages are not condoned by ANY main stream religion. (I could be wrong on this and if so please correct me) I also think this is true about abortions no main stream religion advocates for it either.
